4. Trans-Saharan trade
Caravans from the Arabian Peninsula crossed the Sahara between North Africa and West Africa.
What were they looking to trade for?
GOLD. SALT.
Caravans from West Africa also carried ivory, spices, leather, and ostrich feathers.
The Caravans also brought something else: Islam.

6. Mansa Musa Mansa Musa was Mali’s most famous ruler.
The wealthiest man that ever lived.
Let his subjects practice different religions. He was Muslim.
Used his wealth to build more mosques. Helped make Timbuktu a center of Islam.
In 1324, Mansa Musa increased the fame of Mali during a journey to Mekkah.
