Prayer O God, you know that today—or very soon—I must make a decision which is going to affect my whole life. Help me to choose rightly—and to choose the right way. Grant me your guidance, and with it grant me the humble obedience to accept it. Help me not necessarily to choose what I want to do, but what you want me to do. Grant that I may not be swayed solely by fear or by hope of gain, by selfish love of ease or comfort or by personal ambition, by the desire to escape or by longing for prestige. Help me today in humble obedience to say to you, “Lord, what will you have me to do?” and then await your guidance, and accept your leading. Hear this prayer of mine and send an answer so clear that I cannot mistake it. This I ask for your love’s sake! Amen. TO GAIN THE VCE: 16 satisfactorily completed “units”
(Including 3 units from the ‘English Group’) A typical Thomas Carr College student: 22 satisfactorily completed units 12 units at Year 11 (6 subjects + RE) 10 units at Year 12 (5 subjects + RE)
39
UNIT 1 & UNIT 3 & 4 Most studies (subjects) have 4 units, completed sequentially: Units 1 and 2 are typically ‘Year 11’ and Units 3 and 4 are typically ‘Year 12’. Each unit is completed over a semester = Half a year = 2 terms. For example, Biology Unit 1 (Semester 1), Unit 2 (semester 2) would usually be done in Year 11 and then continued as Biology 3/4 in Year 12.
40
SACS, SATS & EXAMS School Assessed Course work
- Usually completed during class over 1 or more lessons School Assessed Tasks - Usually tasks that require completion over an extended period, for example Terms 1 & 2 Examinations - Yr 11 Internally generated, supervised and assessed - Yr 12 Externally generated, supervised and assessed
41
COMPLETION VS ACHIEVEMENT
Units are completed as S or N S = Satisfactorily completed N = Not Satisfactorily completed For example: Accounting Unit 1 S Unit 2 S (Year 11 completed) Unit 3 S Unit 4 S (Year 12 completed) GA 1 (Unit 3 coursework) B+ GA 2 (Unit 4 coursework) B GA 3 (Exam) A A student who receives an ‘N’ for a SAC or SAT has one opportunity to redeem the ‘N’ for an ‘S’
42
work meets the required 50% minimum standard
SATISFACTORY ACHIEVEMENT OF AN OUTCOME/UNIT: work meets the required 50% minimum standard work was submitted on time work is clearly the student’s own VCE rules have not been breached
43

Recall occurs: Tuesday and Thursday 3.30 – 4.30 pm in B10 If a recall is required, teachers will issue students with a Recall Parental Permission Note
