12 Compton Dear boys and girls, Hello! I am from Compton. My town is very small, but beautiful. There is a nice park in Compton where we can take rides. There is a cinema in Compton. We can watch films there. There are 4 shops in my city but there is no supermarket. There are no palaces in my town. In Compton there are 2 cafes where we can have an ice-cream. 14 It is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and cultural centre. It's one of the largest cities in the world. Its population is more than million people. It is situated on the river Thames. The city is very old and beautiful. It was founded more than two thousand years ago. Traditionally it is divided into several parts: the City, the West End, the East End and Westminster. It has many places of interest. One of them is Buckingham Palace. It's the residence of the Queen. The English are proud of Trafalgar Square, which was named so in memory of the victory at the battle. The last place of interest I should like to mention, is the British Museum, the biggest museum in London. The museum is famous for its library -one of the richest in the world. There are many streets in London which are known all over the" world. Among them Oxford Street, Downing Street and a lot of others can be mentioned. And tourists will have a lot to see and enjoy there.

Besides, every day about one million people come to Moscow from all over Russia and other countries. It was founded more than 800 years ago by Yuri Dolgoruki. The city is situated on the banks of the Moscow River. It is a main political, economic-al and cultural centre of our country. Moscow is the seat of our Government. The heart of the city is Red Square. Here you can see the most beautiful masterpieces of Russian architecture - the Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral. Thousands of visitors enjoy the Tsar-Bell and the Tsar-Cannon, the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great, churches and museums of the Kremlin. It is very beautiful. Plenty of green parks, large squares and wide streets make the city very attractive.

The city’s other names were Petrograd and Leningrad. The city was founded by Tsar Peter 1 in Since that it was the capital of the Russian Empire until 1918. It is a very important port on the Baltic Sea. It is also a major financial and industrial centre of Russia specialising in oil and gas trade, shipbuilding yards, aerospace industry, radio and electronics, software and computers; machine building, mining, metallurgy, chemicals, publishing and printing, food and catering and many other businesses. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is a grand European cultural centre. It is often called “the Venice of the north”. There are a great number of theatres, operas and more than 200 museums in it. The largest one is the Hermitage Museum which contains the richest collection of pictures in the world. There are numerous parks and gardens in the city. The largest park is Sosnovka and the oldest one is the Summer Garden. Among other parks are Maritime Victory Park, the Moscow Victory Park and the Central Park of Culture and Leisure. Saint Petersburg Botanical Garden hosts an important dendrological collections dating back to the 19th century. The city is famous for its legendary beautiful white nights. The city attracts tourists from all over the world.

There are five districts in the city: Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Richmond. Manhattan is the central and the oldest part of the city. It is the district of business and finance. It is here in Wall Street that many business offices, banks are situated. The total area of the city is 365 square miles or 900 square kilometres. Its population together with the population of its suburbs amounts to 16 million people. Among the inhabitants of the city one can meet people of almost all nationalities. A traveller who visits the city for the first time wonders at the modern architecture. The Statue of Liberty, which is on Liberty Island, was a present from France in 1876 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of American independence. In the city wherever your eyes travel, everywhere you can see sky-scrapers. This city is one of the USA leading manufacturing cities, is the home of great firms and banks. The city has many museums and art galleries which have collected works of art of many peoples and of all times. Many of them are on constant display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of Art. Most of the theatres and cinemas are in or near Broadway.
