After Cornelius Vanderbilt took over most of the railroads in the United States, he knew that he had control of the Congress and the Legislatures. The railroads also made him very wealthy.

Vertical integration gave him a great advantage over other steel producers.

A lot of textile mill owners used women and children instead of men because the women and children worked for low pay.

Sweatshops are workplaces where people labor long hours in poor conditions for little pay.
Most workers in a sweatshop are women and children.
