4. Balance
Designs should always achieve a sense of visual balance- how the art elements are distributed in a design.
You shouldn’t place all your same elements of art on the same side and place on the paper.
This could make one part of your artwork seem “heavy”.

5. Movement When your artwork is balanced, it creates movement:
How your eye is lead around a design.
Your eye does not get “stuck” on one part of the design.
This creates a visual flow and can help people understand your artwork better.

15. BALANCE: Dia De Los Muertos Mixed Media Self- Portrait Project

16. Dia de los Muertos—the Day of the Dead—is a holiday celebrated on November 1. Although marked throughout Latin America, Dia de los Muertos is most strongly associated with Mexico, where the tradition originated.
Assured that the dead would be insulted by mourning or sadness, Dia de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the deceased with food, drink, parties, and activities the dead enjoyed in life. Dia de los Muertos recognizes death as a natural part of the human experience, a continuum with birth, childhood, and growing up to become a contributing member of the community.
The most familiar symbol of Dia de los Muertos may be the calacas and calaveras (skeletons and skulls), which appear everywhere during the holiday: in candied sweets, as parade masks, as dolls. Calacas and calaveras are almost always portrayed as enjoying life, often in fancy clothes and entertaining situations.

José Guadalupe Posada (February 2, 1852 – January 20, 1913) was a Mexican political printmaker and engraver whose work has influenced many Latin American artists and cartoonists because of its satirical acuteness and social engagement. He used skulls, calaveras, and skeletons to make political and cultural critiques.
