1 The Seventh Day Adventist Church

2 The Point of This Study Must be in the church belonging to Jesus to be saved. Ephesians 5:23, Ephesians 1:22-23 There’s only 1 church or body. Ephesians 4:4-6 That church is the one grown by the seed, the word of God. Genesis 1:11-12, Luke 8:11, Acts 11:19-26 Origin Name Work Worship Organization Terms of entrance Doctrine One body with one head, not schizophrenic 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 2:16, 3:1-4, Romans 8:5-8

5 Seventh Day Adventists and Ellen G. White

6 Seventh Day Adventists and Ellen G. White

7 Ellen G. White “Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. ”

8 Ellen G. White “As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe , Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227).”

9 Ellen G. White “ Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church.”

10 What the Scriptures teach about revelation:
Mark 16:20, Hebrews 2:4, 2 Corinthians 12:12, cf. Acts 8:4-13 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 Jude 3 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:3, Galatians 1:6-9

13 What the Gospel Says Galatians 3:24-25
Colossians 2:11-17, 2 Cor. 3:3-11, Exodus 31:12-18 Worship on the first day of the week - Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Give cheerfully as we’ve prospered – 2 Corinthians 9:7, 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 “The word Sabbath appears in 53 verses of the New Testament. In the first 52 there is no debate, the Sabbatarians acknowledging that the reference is to the weekly Sabbath. But they insist that the last one, Col. 2:16, cannot refer to the weekly Sabbath. One can understand why. Col. 2:16 is the only one of those references that says the Sabbath is not binding. So Sabbatarians must either give up their error concerning Sabbath keeping or get rid of this verse. Their regard for their error causes them to do the latter. So they assert that Col. 2:16 does not refer to the weekly Sabbath, even though they are going contrary to the uniform usage of the word Sabbath in the New Testament.

14 How the Adventists Attempt To Get Around These Passages
Make false distinctions: 10 Commandments (God’s Law, Moral Law) vs. the Law of Moses (ceremonial law); Statutes, judgments and ordinances (ceremonial law) vs. 10 Commandments (God’s Law, Moral Law) Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5, 7-8, 9, 14, 18 (one book = The Law, the Book of the Law, Book of the Law of Moses, Law of God, Book of the Law of God) Matthew 22:34-39 (Deut. 6:5, Leviticus 19:18) Matthew 19:16-22 (commandments = 10 Commandments, Law of Moses) Deuteronomy 5:1, statutes, rules, ordinances, judgments = 10 Commandments Deuteronomy 5:1 Statutes and judgments, KJV, NKJV Statutes and rules, ESV Statutes and ordinances, ASV, NASB
