Women played an important part too, they did all the men’s jobs and worked in hospitals like Florence Nightingale.
It wasn’t a very nice place to be…

Died in He was captured by the Turkish and died as a prisoner.
Lived in Springfield Road
Died at the age of 26
Mother and father were Charles and Elizabeth Cook
He also earned a Copley medal award
He enlisted at age 24
He was in the Essex regiment
