Academic Counseling
Check with us for questions about grades, graduation requirements, difficulty in a class, testing (AIR, OGT, AP, PSAT), etc.
Personal/Social Counseling
See us with concerns about friends, family, problems you are experiencing.

We keep your conversations with us confidential. However, we are required by law to report:
Child Abuse
Harm to Self
Harm to Others
Unlawful Activity

6. What Does the College & Career Counselor Do?
Career Counseling
Provide resources for career exploration & planning
Assist with resume writing & career portfolios
Provide information about military service

7. What Does the College & Career Counselor Do?
College Counseling
Provide resources to explore and research potential colleges
Provide information about the ACT, SAT and preparation
Assist students with the application process
Help families understand financial aid
Send transcripts, school profiles, counselor reports, and letters to colleges
Write letters of recommendation on behalf of the student

9. A Note About Schedule Changes…
August 26th – last day to change without penalty
Late Drop Policy begins August 29th – Only ONE late drop permitted during your time at Hayes
Additional late drops will be transcribed as an F

Register for the ACT and/or SAT
Begin or continue your college/career search
Schedule college visits now
Organize application materials and set aside time to apply online What do you need to apply?
Ask for letters of recommendation early
Are you applying Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision? Know the difference!

11. Honors Diploma Criteria
4 credits of English
4 credits of Math (including Alg 2)
4 credits of Social Studies (World, US, Gov & Econ)
4 credits of Science (including Chemistry & Physics)
Foreign Language – 2 credits of 2 languages, or 3 credits of 1
1 Fine Art credit
3.5 unweighted GPA
27 on ACT or 1210 on SAT
Must meet 7 of these 8, 1 may be dropped

Check over your transcript to make sure you have met graduation requirements
Your counselors make sure to check requirements are met
However, it is ultimately your responsibility to make sure you have met all of your graduation requirements

You are receiving s regarding Naviance…READ THEM. You will have a training in September to build your college list, complete surveys, and learn to request transcripts and letters of recommendation.

20. Naviance! You have your own online account where you can:
Research colleges and keep lists of those you like
Communicate with Mrs. Conant
Keep track of deadlines
Have your teachers upload letters of recommendation for your applications
Alert Mrs. Conant when a transcript must be sent
You MUST use Naviance – this is the online system we use to submit documentation to colleges.
