9 The Curriculum Maples Class

10 The Curriculum Beech Class

11 Mastery Mathematics Whole school move to a Mastery Curriculum for Maths. Much greater focus on practical work and developing the depth of children’s understanding. Far fewer repetitious tasks that require only a surface level of understanding. Children in all year groups will start by approaching each new concept through practical work, using cubes, counters, etc. The next step will be to record their understanding pictorially, drawing pictures and using standard models and images taught them. Finally, they will move to the abstract, with more traditional calculations and written work. This approach will help to develop fluency, as required by the National Curriculum, as it asks children to present their knowledge in lots of different ways It also supports a reasoning and problem-solving approach, the other key part of the curriculum requirements You may notice a change in what you see in your child’s book at Parents’ Evening, and in the types of homework being sent More information to follow at the Maths Evening on Tuesday, 10th October
