5 Define a Team Theme Most presentations serve one or more of these purposes: To inform or instruct the audience about something To persuade or convince the audience to accept a proposal or idea To entertain the audience

examine content of presentation decide points to segment info assign each segment to specific speaker confirm sequence of speakers allocate time to each speaker’s segment check that all segments support the team theme check no big gaps nor overlaps in information consider the special knowledge/experience of each member and how that fits into presentation

7 Prepare Visual Aids 5 features of good PowerPoint slides
A good introductory slide presents an overview of the entire team’s presentation. Good slides use a consistent design template to show that the presentation is a team effort. Good slides use appropriate diagrams to explain technical details. Good slides adopt a uniform font style throughout. Good concluding slides sum up key points for the audience.

The presentation is well-rehearsed and well-coordinated There is a smooth transition between speakers Team members are well-versed with their own segments and areas of responsibility Team members project a confident and knowledgeable image

13 Techniques to get attention/interest of audience:
posing a question making a startling statement or interesting fact using a humorous story or anecdote appropriate to the topic

14 Examples for seamless transition between speakers:
“I have just elaborated on (main point just covered). Now, my teammate, (name of following speaker), will tell you more about (main point to be covered)” at the close of one part. Or, the speaker who follows after another can say something like “Thank you (name of preceding speaker) for discussing (main point(s) of preceding speaker). I will now elaborate on (main point to be covered).

Verbal Delivery In terms of verbal delivery, signal your enthusiasm and interest by: Adopting a good voice quality Speaking at a comfortable pace

Varying your pitch Adapting your volume level to the size of the audience and venue Pronouncing all words accurately Using transitional phrases/words such as ‘first’, ‘next’ and ‘in addition’ to tie your ideas together

All team members should: know more about the topic than what is presented anticipate areas where questions may arise and prepare suitable answers listen carefully to each question

The team leader should: start and end the session decide who in the audience is to ask a question repeat or rephrase the question for everyone to hear decide who in the team is to answer a question

22 When answering questions during question-and-answer session, all team members should:
think before answering remember the team focus for the presentation use clear and accurate language come to the point be honest and polite

23 On the day of presentation, the every team member must:
arrive early run through segment at least once, in the right order click through visuals/get comfortable with equipment practice with a microphone if using know where to find technical help, just in case even if not speaking, everyone is being watched stay alert, listen, show interest, don’t yawn maintain good posture and look interested do NOT to whisper asides to another member pay attention to audience - gauge audience response

29 PART 2 – Presentation (20 marks) 14 July 2017 (week 13)
 Non-verbal delivery: appropriate gestures, smile, eye-contact, good posture & expressiveness; Verbal delivery: voice projection, pauses, stresses, choice of words, tone & volume Greeting Good opening (creates interest & states topic clearly) and closing (impactful and memorable); Ability to capture audience’s attention (rehearse!);

30 PART 2 – Presentation (20 marks) 14 July 2017 (week 13)
Seamless transition between speakers (linked points, etc); Clear transition between each point / message can be stated in one statement; Good use of visual aids; A back-up plan (so that the presentation can carry on despite the hiccups – technical, human or otherwise); Appropriate & professional attire and overall appearance.
