What is a script?

What is a script? A script is the written text of a play, film, or broadcast. A script is a method for expressing with words the pictures and sounds imagined by the writer in a significant way that can be understood and interpreted by people who turn them into what the writer imagined in pictures and sounds.  A script may be preceded by a plot outline with a climax which ends with either a suspense or an ending which has to be interpreted by the script. A script has four elements which are the scene heading, the action area, character name and the dialogue. A script is a piece of writing in the form of drama. Drama is different from prose forms of writing like novels and short stories because it is intended to be performed, either on stage, radio, television or film

Theatre script Character name Action description Personal direction
Dialogue

Radio script Tone description Pre recorded material Host Sound effects

Film script Scene headings Exterior Character name Interior

Purpose of a script The script basically tells what is to happen in the movie. It is the story. It has all the dialogue all the characters say and tells the setting and what is happening. Actors write many notes on their scrips of what they want to do in each scene, how they wan to say their lines. There is also an accompanying screenplay that is more suited to the film aspect of the whole thing and gives many directions for that arena. Or maybe a movie script is a screenplay, but people say script because that is what it is called when working on the stage. Everyone gets a copy of the script so they know what to do. This creates entertainment by a story that is visualised in a way that the audience will feel touched. For live broadcasts this is needed as its needed to be done step by step so nothing goes wrong.

Conclusion I have learnt from this presentation there Is many things required in order to make a script successful. The main four elements are required which are the scene heading, the action area, character name and the dialogue.  Most movie viewers probably do not think of the collaboration process each time they sit at the theatre, or at their computer, but the required teamwork is significant, as any moviegoer who has actually sits through the end credits can attest.  This presentation made me realise there is no television with a script because everything needs to be in a specific order to make the ideas flow which makes good entertainment.
