Texas Hubs Connect Statewide Network
Developing Your Hub Sponsoring New Hubs The Texas Honor Flight Connection
2
We Can’t Fly the Veterans We Can’t Find
Flying the Veterans is the job only after you find them Many are disconnected from our primary methods of advertising and outreach (television, internet, , social media) Creativity is required to get the message to the right people
3
Use State and Local Veteran Organizations
Each state has some type of Veteran Service Organization / State Agency (Texas Veterans Commission) Often, there are county-based representatives (Veteran Service Officers) They personally know the population we are looking for, and can assist in finding and notifying the Veterans
4
Use State and Local Government
Mayors, City Councils, County Commissioners, County Judges, Governors They all have constituents, connections, and supporters They live in the public eye They can leverage their name, office, or ability to speak to large groups
5
Veteran Organizations
Veterans of Foreign Wars American Legion Disabled American Veterans Paralyzed Veterans of America Military Order of the Purple Heart Jewish War Veterans of the USA
6
Faith-Based Organizations
Churches are communities that communicate Get the word out, find the Veterans, and the support will follow
7
Assisted Living Centers
Whenever we find a Veteran living at one of these centers, we find more… Create an awareness outreach through local assisted living facilities, or partner with parent companies that own several facilities
8
One Size Does NOT Fit All!
Get creative! Every city is different Learn from other Hubs, but recognize what works there may or may not work for you
9
Find The Skills You Do Not Have
No one can be good at everything, but someone in your town has a skillset you need Build a diverse team of partners; make your passions theirs, and let them help you in the way best suited for them Ad agencies, music promoters, event planners, caterers, sign-makers, accountants
10
Community Flights Performed as Honor Flight Austin flights, but fundraising for each was local and specific (Lakeway, Sun City, Gillespie County) Local groups devised and ran fundraising efforts (golf tournament, auction), but HFA received and managed all monies HFA then managed, organized, and financially paid for all aspects of the trip
11
Community Flights Arranging “First Flights” of new hubs as Community Flights under our name and charter Provides “quick start” solution Enables us to “train the trainers”, by seeding the flight with experienced staffers mixed with new staff Allows for a “test flight” of travel plans and organization
12
