Chapter 1: Mrs. Whatsit
There is a bad storm. Meg is in her room.
She is worried about her dad. His name is Mr. Murry. He has not been home in a long time.

5. Meg goes downstairs. She sees her brother. His name is Charles Wallace.
Her mom also comes downstairs. Her name is Mrs. Murry.

6. An old lady named Mrs. Whatsit comes to the door. She wants to rest.
Mrs. Whatsit says to Mrs. Murry, “The tesseract is real.” Mrs. Murry is scared.

7. It is morning. The storm is over. Meg goes to school.
Chapter 2: Mrs. Who
It is morning. The storm is over. Meg goes to school.
Meg is mean to her teacher. She sees the principal. The principal asks when her dad is coming home. Meg is mad.

8. Meg goes home after school. She walks the dog with Charles Wallace

The dog starts barking because he sees a boy. The boy’s name is Calvin.

Charles Wallace invites Calvin for dinner. Charles Wallace wants to talk to Calvin more.

10. Calvin, Meg, and Charles Wallace walk to Mrs. Whatsit’s house
Calvin, Meg, and Charles Wallace walk to Mrs. Whatsit’s house. They go inside. Mrs. Who is there. She is Mrs. Whatsit’s friend.
Charles Wallace talks to Mrs. Who. Then Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin all go back home.

11. Chapter 3: Mrs. Which
The Murry family is home. They all eat dinner and then finish.
Calvin reads a book to Charles Wallace before bed. He finishes reading and goes back to Meg.

12. Calvin and Meg go outside. Calvin asks Meg where her dad is
Calvin and Meg go outside. Calvin asks Meg where her dad is. Meg says her dad had a secret job far away.
Her dad, Mr. Murry, used to write letters to Mrs. Murry. Then they stopped.

13. Meg is sad. She starts to cry. Then Charles Wallace, Mrs

Suddenly, Meg is in the dark. Calvin and Charles Wallace are not there. Meg is scared.
Then Meg hears Calvin and Charles Wallace. She shouts to them. Everything is normal again.

They are on a planet far away in outer space. It is called Uriel.

Then Mrs. Whatsit turns into an animal. She looks like a horse. She also has wings. She is very beautiful.

19. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace climb onto Mrs. Whatsit’s back
Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace climb onto Mrs. Whatsit’s back. She starts to fly.
They see beautiful land. Mrs. Whatsit sings for them. Everyone is joyful.

20. Mrs. Whatsit lands on a very tall mountain. The sun sets.
Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace see a very dark shadow. They are very scared.

21. Mrs. Whatsit flies back to the field. Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which are there.
Meg asks if her dad is fighting the very dark shadow.

22. Chapter 5: The Tesseract
Mrs. Whatsit says Mr. Murry is fighting the very dark shadow. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace want to save him.
They wonder how they will get to the very dark shadow.

23. Mrs. Which takes them to the wrong planet
Mrs. Which takes them to the wrong planet. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace can’t breathe.

24. They travel to another planet where they can breathe
They travel to another planet where they can breathe. It is in Orion’s belt. It is ugly.

25. They go into a cave. They are visiting the Happy Medium.
She has a crystal ball. She shows Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace their planet, Earth.

26. The earth is covered in a shadow
The earth is covered in a shadow. It is the very dark shadow they saw before. They call it the Black Thing.
Mrs. Which says they must fight the Black Thing.

28. Chapter 6: The Happy Medium
The Happy Medium shows the Black Thing. Then light destroys it.
The light came from a star. Mrs. Whatsit says she used to be a star.

29. They travel to the planet Camazotz. It looks like Earth.
Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who give Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace advice. Mrs. Who gives Meg her glasses. Then they leave.

30. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace see houses. They are all the same
Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace see houses. They are all the same. Children bounce a ball in the yards.
All their moms come outside at the same time. The children go inside at the same time.

31. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace see a boy. He is bouncing a ball alone.
His mom comes outside to get him. He goes inside the house. He forgets the ball.

32. Charles Wallace picks up the ball. He knocks on the door

Charles Wallace gives the boy the ball. Then all the moms shut their doors. They are angry.

33. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace see a boy delivering newspapers
Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace see a boy delivering newspapers. He says CENTRAL Central Intelligence is in their city. Their city is the best in Camazotz.
The boy leaves. Charles Wallace thinks he sounds strange.

34. Charles Wallace wants to go inside. Calvin does not want to go inside.

They walk into the city. There are more people. They see a huge building. It is CENTRAL Central Intelligence.

35. Chapter 7: The Man With Red Eyes?
The door to CENTRAL Central Intelligence opens. There are people inside. Charles Wallace asks a businessman a lot of questions.
The businessman is annoyed. He says he must report Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace.

36. CENTRAL Central Intelligence
Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace are reported. They must go to CENTRAL Central Intelligence.
There is a man with red eyes. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace are scared.

37. Meg asks where her dad is. The man will not tell her.
The man with red eyes says he controls Camazotz. He makes decisions for the people. He tries to control Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace. It does not work.

Meg is scared. Charles Wallace is not acting normal. This is because the man with the red eyes is controlling him.
Charles Wallace takes Meg and Calvin upstairs with an elevator.

Charles Wallace says everyone is the same in Camazotz. Everyone is happy. It is better than Earth.

Charles Wallace says Meg must see IT if she wants to save Mr. Murry. IT is very bad. Meg is scared.
Meg remembers she has Mrs. Who’s glasses. She puts them on.

44. Mrs. Who’s glasses are magic. They help Meg get into the column

45. IT
Charles Wallace tells Meg, Calvin, and Mr. Murry to follow him. Charles Wallace is taking them to IT.
They go inside another building. Meg sees a big brain sitting on a table.

46. Meg feels like the brain is trying to control her
Meg feels like the brain is trying to control her. IT wants to make her a zombie like Charles Wallace.
Meg is very, very scared. Mr. Murry grabs Meg before the brain controls her. Suddenly it is dark.

47. Chapter 10: Absolute Zero
Meg is lying on the ground. She can’t move, but can hear her dad talking to Calvin. She is very, very cold.
Three beasts come near them. They look like octopuses. They pick up Meg and take her away.

The beasts say Meg is in danger. The Black Thing is trying to control her. Meg falls asleep.
Meg wakes up. The beasts are taking care of her. She feels better. One beast talks to her. Meg calls her “Aunt Beast”.

50. Meg gets dressed. She wants to see her dad and Calvin

Meg is mad because her dad can’t rescue Charles Wallace.

Suddenly Meg hears Mrs. Whatsit’s voice.

52. Chapter 12: The Foolish and the Weak

Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which appear. Meg asks them to save Charles Wallace. They can’t.
Meg understands she must save Charles Wallace. He is her brother. Meg knows him best.

53. Meg says goodbye to the beasts, Aunt Beast, Calvin, and her dad.
Mrs. Which helps Meg travel to Camazotz. She gives Meg advice. Then Mrs. Which leaves.

54. IT
Meg starts walking toward the building with the brain. The brain is called IT.
Meg arrives. She sees Charles Wallace and the brain. He is still acting like a zombie.

55. The brain is trying to control her
The brain is trying to control her. Meg realizes the brain doesn’t love anything. But she loves Charles Wallace.
Meg shouts, “I love you, Charles Wallace!” Now she is stronger than the brain.

56. The brain does not control Charles Wallace anymore
The brain does not control Charles Wallace anymore. Suddenly Meg and Charles Wallace travel back to Earth.

57. Meg and Charles Wallace go back home. Her family and Calvin is there
Meg and Charles Wallace go back home. Her family and Calvin is there. Everyone is very happy.
Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which quickly come. They say goodbye and leave.
