Fall Semester Objectives: Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening; Literature analysis & development of expository, persuasive and narrative writing.

Classroom Routines
Spiral Notebooks: We use two-three notebooks
1. Journals—often used as an opening activity. These are timed, on-demand writing exercises.
2. Literary spirals—these are used to respond to literature, write academic notes, and to practice academic writing.
3. In a spiral, or other book of choice, students write their daily agendas to assist in personal organization and to communicate daily academic activities with parents.
Teaching strategies I favor: Read/Discuss, Graphic Organizers/Concept maps, Collaborative Groups,, Pair-sharing, and lots of independent reading and writing.
Typical Assessments (formative & summative): quiz, test, essays (partial or complete), socratic seminars, spiral completion.
