4. What is Occupation?
Occupation refers to the activities and tasks of daily life that have value and meaning to a person. Occupations can include:
• self-care (i.e. personal care, mobility),
• leisure (i.e. social activities, sports) and
• productivity (play, school, employment, homemaking).
Occupational therapists assist a client to:
• learn new ways of doing things.
• adapt materials or equipment they use.
• make changes to their environments.

7. Successful completion of the BSc (Hons) and MSc in Occupational Therapy leads to;
Eligibility to apply to become registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
Eligibility to become a Professional Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists

9. MSc (Pre Reg) Course Content Level 7
The academic modules have been carefully planned to first introduce students to core theoretical concepts of occupational therapy before applying this information in increasingly complex situations.
A blended learning and teaching approach is used to maximise learning.
This includes lectures, small group learning, directed study, learning sets and placements throughout the programme.
Many students are new to working at level 7, so academic skill development is also built into the early modules.
Academic and placement modules are closely aligned with each drawing on learning from the other.

10. Course Content Level 7 continued
There are several key themes which run through all of the modules with an incremental development of understanding, learning and skills.
An example of this can be seen in module HRBO 7020 (Introduction to Occupational Therapy) with the introduction of occupational therapy theory, philosophy and concepts.
These underpinning ideologies will be developed further in module HRBO 7021 (Life Sciences and Occupational Therapy), then again in the Applied Occupational Therapy modules (HRBO 7028 and HRBO 7029).
This developmental expectation will be mirrored in the module assessments.

Pre-set work: one week in advance.
9.30am – 12.30pm: Learning Set activities.
12.30pm – 1.30pm: Lunch
1.30pm – 4.00pm: Classroom Activities e.g. discussion, debate, practical activity, visiting lecturer, 2nd year input.

Summer 2016 saw the refurbishment of the Occupational Therapy Skills Labs in both Carlisle and Lancaster These provide students with opportunities for experiential learning awareness of how Occupational Therapy is applied within practice.

22. MSc (Pre Reg) Entry Requirements
First degree in a related subject at 2:2 or above. All Candidates must have 4 GCSE or Equivalent passes including English Language GCSE at grade C or above. You must pass the Occupational Health and DBS clearance checks. Must have experience / sound understanding of Occupational Therapy.
