The Pop artists moved away from Abstract Expressionism which was the “in” style of art in the 50s. The Abstract Expressionist evoked emotions, feelings and ideas through formal elements such as: Line - the continuos mark made on some surface by a moving point. Color - three properties hue, intensity, and value Shape - an enclosed space defined by other elements of art Form - is three-dimensional and encloses volume Jackson Pollock, Number 4, 1950 Carnegie Museum of Art; Gift of Frank R. S. Kaplan/ARS Texture - surface quality or "feel" of an object
