7 Reasons We Love God’s church
2
We should love God because :
1. He created a world and lets us use it. 2. He gives us life and an eternal soul. 3. He sustains us with all that is good. 4. He gives us the freedom to choose. 5. He loves us with an eternal love.
3
Why should we love God’s bride ?
You wouldn’t be friends with one who disliked your spouse.
4
Seven reasons we should love God’s church.
I The church is the eternal plan of God. II. The church is still under construction by God. III. The church is the most expensive purchase ever. IV. The church is the most sacred place on earth. V. The church is where God is glorified. VI. The church is our eternal dwelling place. VII. Jesus / God loves the church.
5
I. The church is the eternal
plan of God for mankind.
6
John. 18: 36 Jesus answered, " My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm."
7
God prepared the church / kingdom before He created the world.
8
Matthew 25: 34 Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.'
9
I Peter 1: 19-21 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you 21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
10
Therefore : We should love the church because it’s what God has always wanted for us.
11
II. The church is still under
construction and it is being built by God.
12
God’s church is a building that is continually under construction.
13
Ephesians 2: 19-22 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
14
I Peter 2: 4-5 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
15
Matthew 6: 9-10 Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven. Colossians 1: 13-14 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
16
You and I are the ones God uses to build His kingdom – church – temple.
I Cor. 3: 9 – For we are God’s fellow workers; Luke 19: 10 – For the Son of Man has come to seek and save that which is lost ( Eph. 2:10 – We are His workmanship )
17
Therefore : We should love the church because God is still building it for Himself.
18
III. The church is the most
expensive purchase ever made.
19
Solomon’s temple was the most expensive structure ever built.
20
resort in Singapore is the costliest in this modern era.
Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore is the costliest in this modern era.
21
The cost of the church was more than anything man ever conceived.
22
Acts 20: 28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
23
Therefore : We should love the church because Only Begotten Son of God died to purchase it.
24
IV. The church is the most
sacred place on earth .. made of sanctified and living stones.
25
There are many places on earth
that men consider holy. 1. Buddhist : Lumbini in modern Nepal 2. Hindus : Varanasi in India 3. Muslim : Mecca in Saudi Arabia
26
Wherever the church meets
it form that which is called “the most holy place.” in the Old Testament.
27
I Kings 8: 10-11 It happened that when the priests came from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.
28
Hebrews 9: 6-7 Now when these things have been so prepared, the priests are continually entering the outer tabernacle performing the divine worship, 7 but into the second, only the high priest enters once a year, not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance.
29
Hebrews 10: 19-20 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
30
The scripture affirm that the
church is the holy place where God manifests Himself on the earth today.
31
I Corinthians 6: 11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. Hebrews 3: 1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;
32
I Corinthians 3: 16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? ( “you” is 2nd person plural .. the church ) Matthew 18: 20 For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.
33
To come into the assembly of the church is to come into God’s presence in
a special way.
34
Therefore : We should love the church because it is the most holy place on earth.
35
V. The church is where God
is glorified on earth.
36
Christians are the only
physical manifestation of God on the earth.
37
Galatians 2: 20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
38
Philippians 2: 12-13 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
39
II Corinthians 5: 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
40
Ephesians 3: 20-21 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.
41
What am I ... What are you ... What are we ... What is this church doing to glorify God ?
42
Therefore : We should love the church because it is the means by which God is glorified in this place.
43
VI. The church is the Christian’s
eternal dwelling place.
44
II Peter 3: 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
45
I Corinthians 15: 54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory.”
46
After physical death the soul of man lives on eternally.
Luke 16: 19f The rich man and Lazarus Matthew 10: 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
47
John 5: Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, 29 and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
48
I Thessalonians 4: 16-18 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
49
Therefore : We should love the church because in it we have the assurance of eternity with God and our brethren.
50
VII. We should love the church
because Jesus / God loves His church.
51
Ephesians 5: 25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
