How does the application process work?
New NHS candidates must submit the following documents by Friday October 28th at 3:00 PM to Ms. Carrigan in Room 217 for Fall 2016 application: A completed application Record of a minimum of 10 hours of community service in no more than 3 different activities completed between the start of ninth grade and application to the NHS. (attached with the application) List of leadership positions/achievements (part of the application form) 1 Leadership essay ( words) (part of the application form) 1 faculty recommendation attesting to leadership and character (attached with the application) 1 recommendation detailing commitment to community service (not a faculty member at CHS) (attached with the application) All components of the application process must be submitted as hard copies in the provided folder.

Where do I place my application documents?
Look for the large NHS bin in Ms. Carrigan and Ms. Claps’s room (217) on the windowsill. Each candidate will bring their file folder with his/her name written on the tab. Place all components of the application in this folder. Make sure that your application is complete. It is your responsibility to meet the deadline of Friday October 28th at 3:00 PM. Each of the folders will be checked for all application materials. NOTE: If the file is incomplete by the due date/time, then the candidate WILL NOT be considered for membership.
5
What happens after the application deadline?
A faculty review committee will meet in late October to review only the complete candidate application files. The committee will take into consideration all general faculty ratings that were submitted to the NHS co-advisors. All faculty members have been asked to rate only those students who they know. The faculty members give separate ratings of (where 0 = non-recognition, l = low and 3 = high) on a student’s qualities of character and leadership. Once the committee has completed its deliberations, letters will be mailed to all candidates informing them of either their acceptance or non-acceptance. All letters will be mailed at the same time.
