2 In December, both Pom and Cheer competed at the AIA qualifiers against 20 other schools. Both teams made top 10 which qualified them to compete at the State Championship. On Jan 14th, Pom placed 5th and Cheer placed 3rd. Pom has been in the top 5 at state the last 6 years. Cheer returned to the top three for the first time in two years. WAY TO GO BEARS!

The University of Arizona, in partnership with Cox Communications, presents the 3rd annual Connect2STEM—a family-friendly event celebrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Math—and Medicine. 100+ tables of hands-on science activities 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 Event Location: UA College of Medicine – Phoenix 550 E. Van Buren Street, Phoenix FREE REGISTRATION ENCOURAGED: The event is free. Attendees are encouraged to register online to be automatically entered to win an iPad Pro and receive discounted parking.

7 Please congratulate the following students on their successes at the District 5 DECA competition! With District 5 being one of the most competitive districts, I am so proud of these students. They rocked it!

8 PSAT scores are in! If you took the PSAT in November, you can pick up your test booklet and score report in the auditorium during conference on Thursday, January 26. There will also be a brief explanation on how to interpret your score reports so please be on time. If you are unable to attend this session please see Ms. Blancarte in the counseling office to obtain your scores.

14 All students who have been or hope to be awarded the NAU Lumberjack Scholars Award must submit a 7th semester transcript to NAU by February 10 in order to verify eligibility for this award. Also, any student retaking courses to be eligible for this award, must provide proof of enrollment in course retakes. Please see your counselor regarding this matter.

Duke University OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS Demystifying the College Admissions Process for Highly Selective Colleges In conjunction with Chandler High Schools, Duke University is pleased to offer “Demystifying the College Admission Process”, a 60-minute seminar for area high school ninth, tenth and eleventh graders and their parents. Demystifying the College Admission Process will take place on Tuesday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Demystifying the College Admission Process will provide information about what families should know now as they begin to consider highly selective colleges as an option. Highly selective colleges and universities have many applicants, low admission rates and use a holistic approach when making admission decisions. Steve McLaughlin, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admissions will address the topics of admissions trends, what highly selective schools look for, how decisions are made, and how to best prepare at this stage of your high school career. Mr. McLaughlin has been with Duke University for 17 years and is the Admissions Officer from Duke who works with students from Arizona. Preregister at Registration is not required This seminar will not focus on admission to Duke or any other specific college. Students interested in learning more about admission to Duke are encouraged to attend a program in your area or arrange a visit to campus at the Duke Admissions website

LATE BUS PASSES You must have a signed pass to ride the Late Bus. See Mrs. Lindvig in the front office for a Late Bus Pass. Late Buss passes are for students attending tutoring or after school club activities only. Passes require a signature from that particular teacher. A new pass is required each day.
