3 Simple Sentences One independent clause Mrs. DeSantis read.
The annoying math teacher taught his students the lessons.

4 Compound Sentences Two or more independent clauses are joined
Mr. Maffei ran home, and Mr. Miller took the bus. The Jets lost the game; no one was surprised.

5 Complex Sentences Have one independent and at least one dependent clause Because the boys did not have any money when the ice cream truck drove past, they cried for days. Mr. Miller is known for being mean as he often throws students out of windows. Because there were no more peanut butter cups, Mrs. DeSantis was upset although she had already eaten six.

6 Compound-Complex Sentences
At least two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause Mr. Maffei ate the food, and as he was leaving the house, he locked the door. Because of his allegiance to the Yankees, Mr. DeSantis cried when they lost, but Mr. James laughed. Since he hated exercise, Mr. Jones gained weight, and as he gained more weight, he became obese.
