Additional Objectives
Organize and preserve historical documentation in the College Archives Promote a better understanding of the Rollins architectural heritage Compile a new Rollins walking guide For the new incoming students, and to get the current students more familiar with the buildings on campus.

New Campus Walking Guide
Campus has gone through much change since last publication Allow new and prospective students get acquainted with the campus Help students, alumni and general public learn more about the history of the College and its architecture Alfond Sports Center and

Our Research Process Begins…
Reading the history of Rollins College Browsing books on American and Florida architecture Reviewing primary source documents in Archives Compiling the master list Working with the College Historian, the offices of Vice President and Facilities Management Researched the donors, prices, etc

Problems We Run Into… Files scattered under buildings, grounds, finance, administration, campus housing, landscapes Different facts and figures Dates Prices Uses Lack of information on some older buildings when was purchased, renovated or renamed Information on some new construction projects has not been forwarded to the Archives There were different dates on different documents, not much info on recent rounds of renovations, and need more information on the various uses of the buildings throughout the years (i.e. current bookstore used to be the student union).

Digitization of Historical Photos
Many architectural photos have been digitized through a previous student-faculty research project Additional images of Rollins buildings are scanned and added to Archival web page Campus maps and aerial views over years are surveyed and digitized

What We Have Learned: Gain general architectural knowledge
Become expert on campus buildings Put web page skills into practice Architecture is an important component of liberal arts experience at Rollins Develop a deep appreciation for the architectural beauty of the campus

House mother system during the early days of the College

Pinehurst served as a ladies dorm, presidential house, library, kitchen and dining hall, chemistry lab, music studio, English classroom, military headquarters, almost destroyed by fire in 1909, & was moved 20 ft. in 1987

Someone tried to blow up the Bush Science Center in 1971

Faculty voiced strong objections to the demolition of Knowles Hall in 1983
