Ohio’s new College Credit Plus can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs.

Student Choice
You choose the course(s) that fits your pathway. Each must be secular, apply toward a degree or workforce certification, and confer college credit. Talk to your counselor about your academic plan and career goals. Review the school’s model pathways.
Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public (or participating private) college.
In addition to being non-remedial, College Credit Plus courses may not be religious in nature.

Students attending a private college may have pay up to $158.50/credit hour.
Students must be Ohio residents.

If you fail the course or drop it too late, you may have to pay for it.

Classes failed or withdrawn with an “F” will receive an “F” on the high school and college transcripts and will be computed into the high school and college GPA. If you do not receive a passing grade, the district may, in some instances, seek reimbursement for the amount of state funds paid to the college on your behalf for that college course. The school district may withhold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made.

The grades you earn in the college courses will be recorded on your college transcript and your high school transcript. The grades may satisfy high school required or elective classes. You must request official college transcripts to be sent to colleges you apply to your senior year…CCP courses on your high school transcript are not transferable.

1. Notify School Counselor by April 1 of intent to participate (Intent to Participate FORM).

26. STEPS TO CCP
2. Apply to college of your choosing by college assigned deadline (many are May 1).
3. Show academic college-readiness/admission standards based on college’s criteria (College-readiness Test/Transcript).
4. Complete any additional paperwork for the college (counselor form, WSU Math test waiver, etc.) or online requirements (WSU Online Writing Test).
5. Attend an orientation in person or online, if required
6. Register for appropriate classes based on counselor and advisor recommendation.

CCP is a process of application, testing, registration, requesting books, taking classes, reporting grades…you must stay organized and meet your deadlines!
It is best if you know your pathway to ensure the courses you take will benefit you and can be transferred into your course of study.
Textbooks are ordered differently depending upon the institution.
Textbooks are to be retuned to your school counselor (unless otherwise directed) immediately after the semester ends.
