There are about 45, 000 Zoroastrians living in Iran today. Their numbers have dwindled over time due to emigration, conversion to Islam and centuries of oppression due to being misunderstood.

One way Zoroastrians are often misunderstood is that they are incorrectly labelled as “fire-worshippers”. As we know, the fire represents divine presence and is a symbol of their religion, much like the cross for Christians. The fire in the temple pictured to the left has been burning for over 70 years.
