Positive Behavior Support
Dolphin Golds and Brainy Brickys- given to students throughout the day by teachers recognizing responsible, respectful, and/or ready behavior as well as academic excellence and learning Monthly Assemblies- held to recognize individual students and classes for 3R’s behavior in all classes and Perfect Attendance

Expectations Students have worked together as a class to develop norms and expectations, in order to create a positive classroom community. Students are encouraged to follow expectations and to do their best. There are students with a variety of learning styles. Therefore, the learning environment will change throughout the day. Examples could be, whole group instruction, small group activities, partner work, independent tasks..etc. Weekly behavior is recorded every Friday, in the Friday folder. It should be signed each weekend and returned Monday morning.

Mathematics Common Core Standards drives instruction. Essential questions focus the daily lesson. Student learning maps can be found in each subject notebook. Areas to be covered- geometry, volume, multiplication and division of large numbers, fractions, decimals, data, and early algebra Flexible Grouping- based on students’ strengths and needs

Science Smithsonian and Foss Kits- Mixtures and Solutions, Motion and Design, & Ecosystems Hands-on Materials: Salt, evaporation dishes, K’nex, Fish, Snails Lessons will be taught for about 5-6 weeks and then we will focus on Social Studies for next 5-6 weeks. DCAS test will be taken in the Spring that will cover material learned in grades 1 through 5

Homework Policy Agenda books will be filled out at the beginning of the day Approximately 30 minutes of homework each day Students should read 15 minutes each day Homework is for student practice and expected to be reviewed by parents. The teacher will check for completion and review when necessary. Contracts include Study Island, Reading Log and IXL and are given to students on Friday and needs to be signed and returned the following Friday morning. Homework can also be found on the Brick Mill Website when a class message is sent out by the teacher. Remember to sign up for both teacher’s classes Text: text class code to the number 81010

Homework Expectations
For each Study Island (Reading and Science) assignment, students are expected to complete at least 10 questions AND 15 minutes on each skill. Students may have completed the skill last year; they are still expected to complete 10 questions for the week on each skill. For IXL (math), students are to work for 15 minutes OR mastery on each skill. For the Reading Log, students are to read for at least 15 minutes each night. Log should be initialed by parent/guardian

How you can help us support your child:
Practice their multiplication facts with them to build their fluency. There are fun games on the wikispace under the Unit 1 Math Multiplication page or you can have them practice in the car with you, etc. Ask them what they have been learning in school, in specific subject areas. Explore fun activities and games with them on the wikispace
