4 Communication Fourth grade web site
Weekly update: correct addresses needed! Dunwoody Dispatch: our school newsletter that is forwarded via the classroom teacher. Wednesday folders: blue folders are sent home each week with important information. Every other week, sample papers are also sent home (beginning next week). Please return the folder each week! Agendas: each student has an agenda in their binder. Please view it nightly!

5 Homework is assigned weekly by each teacher.
Math assignments will usually be completed each night. Homework assignments are written in student agendas. Please be sure to check them daily.

6 School Policies Transportation changes: All changes of transportation MUST be in writing (using the school form or letter from parent)  and submitted to the front office by the student or fax no later than 12 noon on the day of the change. Teachers cannot accept transportation changes via . In addition, you may also the change to Absences: all medical absences must be accompanied by a doctor’s note or note from home. Ms. Goggins will no longer approve absences for family vacations, weddings, etc.as they effect our school’s CCRPI rating. Any future questions can be directed to Ivy Goggins, school principal Tardies: after 7:40, parents must walk students into the building. Breakfast is not served after 7:40 Please make sure your student gets to school on time!

7 School Policies Behavior: students are encouraged to display positive classroom behavior. To add interest and excitement for students, each teacher has a positive reward system in place. Uniform Policy: each student is encouraged to wear navy or khaki pants, long shorts, or a skirt/dress, a red, navy, white, or light blue collared shirt, and closed toed shoes. This year students are allowed to wear Dunwoody Springs spirit wear every day as long as it is accompanied by khaki or blue bottoms.

8 DSES Family Events and Activities
Twitter Nights: families spend quality time together, and tweet their activities. PBL Showcase Nights: twice per year, DSES students present their current project based learning products! PBL Showcase Nights for this year will announced soon. International Night: October 5, 2017 Publix Family Math Night: TBA

9 Field Trips Please return the class dues form by September 15. Your support is greatly appreciated! We are currently in the process of planning our field trips.

10 PBL-What is it? PBL Release Days: These are days the students have off, and are in addition to Fulton County student holidays. Teachers complete staff development and plan the project based learning units. PBL Release Day dates: September 1, November 17, January 16, and March 13

12 Reading/ELA Reading, language, and writing are taught with an integrated approach. With this approach to learning, fourth graders are working to develop higher order thinking skills and make meaningful connections to other subject areas including social studies, science, and math. Independent reading: students are encouraged to read in school and at home. Students visit the media center, and conference with teachers about book choices. Writing Workshop: writing mini lessons, individual writing time, writing conferences. Types of writing include narrative, opinion, and informational. Writing is integrated into all subject areas!

All students are given a chance for recovery on major tests only. Students can increase their score by correcting errors, earning one half point back for each point missed.

17 School and State Assessments
BAS: the reading level of all students is assessed three times per year. It provides teachers with data on error patterns, phonics, and reading comprehension. Georgia Milestones: this state wide assessment evaluates student proficiency on state curriculum standards. It is taken in April. This year fourth grade will take the Milestones Assessment in reading, language, and math.

18 Technology Many programs and applications are used during the school year to maximize student learning. These include: iRead, iReady, Redbird, Imagine Learning, Learning.com, Office 365 Students can access programs via Launchpad on the Fulton County Schools web site.
