1 8th Grade Reading Expectations
What do you need to do to be successful in Reading?

2 You will need to meet these literacy standards
and Comprehension  Read at grade level Read independently a Select my own texts

3 Your report card will state yes or no next to the following statements
  I can understand the texts that I read. YES or NO    I can read at the 8th grade level. YES or NO    I can read independently.   I can select my own texts.

4 How do you get a yes on your report card?
  You must score at or higher than 80% cumulatively on AR tests.  You need to read and test on a minimum of three books each quarter.   Based on your Star Reading IRL you read at grade level.   You read on your own for the 30 minute SSR time at the start of each day.   You can go to the library and choose texts you would like to read.

5 Why should you read? Here are your incentives!
Students can earn one Tiger Buck for the concession stand each quarter by earning a YES on at least 3 of the reading standards. If students read the equivalent of 12 books, they may earn a trip to the movie theater at the end of year.
