Parent Night 2017 Presented by Mrs. Eck
2
Welcome to Mrs. Eck’s fifth grade classroom!
Teacher : Mrs. Donna Eck Graduated from Fort Hays State University Has taught fifth grade at Beloit Elementary for the past 37 years
3
Fifth grade expectations:
Practice the character traits at all times Learn to work well and play well with others - Respect others Show responsibility for academics—be prepared for class, write assignments in the planner, have homework done on time, use class time well Show responsibility for actions
4
Math Students must have the “tools” for math—They must know their math facts! Knowing math facts helps with accuracy and speed in which math will be completed. Class time is given to work on math. Help can be asked for then or during study times through the day. Students having trouble with a few problems on homework need to see me as soon as they come in that morning before it is due in class. Students are expected to show their work, so we can identify where calculation inaccuracies occurred.
5
Reading Whole group reading skills
Guided skill groups—based on AIMS scores, State test scores, observations of class performance—grouping possibly with other teachers as well AR tests are calculated in the reading grade for the nine weeks. Comprehension scores and points are included in the grade.
6
Spelling Spelling involves daily work and tests
Home lists have been sent for all units. Trial tests are on Tuesday. Those earning an A+ on the trial will not have to take the final test on Friday. Because of vacation days, this schedule sometimes needs to be adapted Students may practice on spellingcity.com
7
Fifth grade rotations All three 5th grade classrooms rotate for English, Science, and Social Studies. English is taught by Mrs. Eck. Science is taught by Mrs. Snavely. Social Studies is taught by Mrs. Palen.
8
Science and Social Studies Notes
Social studies and science notes/flashcards should by studied and learned each day as they are given, so students will not feel overwhelmed trying to learn information before the test. This method will also help as many students are involved in activities and studying gradually will mean that they will be prepared no matter when the test is scheduled. Waiting until the last minute to study will be overwhelming.
