Edge Printing Edge printing is a new Dynamic Image option
Printing an image on the front edge or side edge of a book Designer automatically divides a selected image into slices, according to the number of pages in the book. Edge Printing – Step by Step
Edge printing is meant for printed books, notebooks and similar applications Database A DB with1 column, number of records is number of book pages divided by 2. Data can be a simple counter, as it is not printed. Create a 2 page InDesign document, with the size same as the book page size Define the book content Image channel – Multipage PDF channel Define 2 Image channels, 1 on each of the 2 pages, Channels size - entire page size For each of the 2 channels: Double click the channel row in the Channels palette to open the Image channel window In the Image Channel window In the Type field select Multiple files For File Name field, browse and select the book multiple page PDF file c. Define the Edge Printing channel 1. Create a PDF single page file for the content of the Edge Printing channel The PDF size should fit the book Edge area size or smaller On Page 1 of the main InDesign doc, Define an image channel Size: width - same or less than the page size, height 1 mm Edge Printing content PDF b. Position: 0.5 mm at page net area, 0.5 on bleed area (also possible: height 2 mm, position of 1 mm in net, 1 in bleed) Double-click the channel row in the channel palette In the Image Channel window that opens: In Type field, select Dynamic Image b. c. change without notice. a b For Application, select HP Edge Printing Click Settings c © Copyright 2015 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. Click Save as to save a copy of the Template. In the Edge Printing Template Editor window: Select the Spine Printing option (check box) In the Image field select a *PDF file that will serve as the spine printing content 8 9 10 10. Preparing the Spine Printing Content PDF file
-15- Need to know: Spine width Number of books in the set Multiply the width by the number of books = the Spine Printing Content PDF width Example Spine width – 15 mm Number of books in the set – 7 Width of Spine Printing PDF – 105 mm Number of DB records The behavior is cyclic: Example, if there are 7 books in the set and a DB with 70 records, then Spine printing will prepare 10 sets of 7 books.
