*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)
Lord, forgive us when we doubt your mercy and love. Forgive us for getting so caught up in getting everything we want, which we
15
want right now. We have trouble waiting, and remembering that it is in the waiting that we hear your voice. It can be difficult for us to believe that we can be fruitful, good soil
16
for your words and work. We find excuses not to be attentive to you, but to focus instead on our own desires. Slow us down, Lord.
17
Remind us again of your mercy and your love; for we offer this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
18
ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: God hears your cries and heals your wounded hearts. God is preparing you for good things to come. Place your trust in God who has loved you and will always love you.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 119:
22
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to observe your righteous ordinances. I am severely afflicted; give me life, O Lord, according to your word.
23
Accept my offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach me your ordinances
Accept my offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach me your ordinances. I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law. The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts.
24
Your decrees are my heritage for ever; they are the joy of my heart
Your decrees are my heritage for ever; they are the joy of my heart. I incline my heart to perform your statutes for ever, to the end.
25
SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 13:1-9,18-23
26
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the lake
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the lake. Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach.
27
And he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘Listen
And he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much
28
soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil
soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
29
Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Let anyone who hears listen! Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not
30
understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
31
yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. As for what was sown among thorns,
32
this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it,
33
who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.’ L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

“Sowers” Rev. Tedd Pullano
35
Christ taught us of a farmer who went out sowing seeds.
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.1 [Tune: The Church’s One Foundation] Christ taught us of a farmer who went out sowing seeds. A few had trouble growing among the rocks and weeds.
36
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.1
But others grew till harvest in soil that was good. O God, you sow the gospel: The seed is your own word.
37
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.2
You sowed your word of love here so many years ago. Your message found a welcome; your word began to grow.
38
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.2
By grace, this church was built here by saints who followed you. The seed took root and flourished: we hear and follow, too.
39
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.3
We thank you for each member who lives in loving ways, For those who seek to serve you without expecting praise.
40
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.3
For hearts and songs uplifted, for work and sacrifice. The seed you planted grows here: we grow in Jesus Christ.
41
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.4
In times of joy we praise you, in struggling times we search, And always we are learning to be your faithful church.
42
*HYMN “Christ Taught Us of a Farmer” v.4
Your Spirit gives us vision, and hearts and lives made new. Your harvest is for sharing: sent out, we work for you.
