1 Know at a Glance it’s Tight™
INTRODUCING Know at a Glance it’s Tight™

2 Welcome to the FUTURE of BOLTING
When a bolt is tightened, it creates tension. Tension is a stretching force. SmartBolts® measure tension so you can know at a glance if it’s tight. SmartBolts® are the future of bolting. Welcome to the FUTURE of BOLTING

3 Torque or Tension? Torque is a rotational force.
Measuring torque tells you how hard it is to turn the bolt. You can infer from this measure how “tight” the bolt is by estimating the friction factors. Tension is an axial force. Measuring tension tells you directly how “tight” your bolt is. And is completely independent of variable friction factors.

4 SmartBolts Measure Tension
Bolts work like springs. When you stretch a spring, it pulls back – trying to return to its original size. The stretching force is called tension. The stretching force on a bolt is also called tension. The tension creates clamp force, which holds bolted components together.

5 What are SmartBolts? SmartBolts allow users to simply look at their bolts and know they are tight. SmartBolts are revolutionizing the way industry approaches bolting.

6 The SmartBolts Visual Indicator
The SmartBolts indicator turns from red to black when proper tension has been reached and is reusable for the life of the fastener. The indicator responds to and continuously displays the actual level of tension on the bolt.

7 We Transform Ordinary Bolts into SmartBolts
We source bolts equivalent to what you are currently using and install our patented SmartBolts visual indicator. During Quality Control, we test every SmartBolt we produce to verify proper tension indication under load.

8 You Can Make Your Bolts Smart!
We can add our technology to bolts of nearly every available grade, finish, and coating.

9 SmartBolts are Available in a Wide Range of Options

10 SmartBolts Deliver VALUE
THEN, you enjoy the benefits of SmartBolts: IF you are certain you are getting your bolts properly tight at installation... ..and, with a quick, visual check, you can see if they are still properly tight… …and catch dangerous loose conditions before accidents occur… Keeping production up and running. Saving time during inspections and maintenance. Helping prevent accidents.

12 Electrical Distribution / Busway / General Electric, Eaton, others
SmartBolts Keep the Power Flowing SmartBolts keep critical electrical busway connections properly clamped and protect from potential power outages. Busway bridge joints must be properly clamped to ensure conductivity, reduce heat build-up and possibility of arc flash. SmartBolts provide continuous visual verification that proper clamp force is applied to the conducting bars. Visual, no-touch inspection of bridge joint security is possible, without shutting down the power. Continuous use in this application since 1997. “The three main slewing bearings of [Agrico’s] shiploaders connect the base structures to the loading arms and allow them to swing to reach various cargo hold in the ship.” Agrico Sales designs and build shiploader cranes. The above photos show the installation of SmartBolts in a shiploader crane for one of Agrico’s customers, Bunge, that can load up to 120k bushels per hour. Three 12-ft. diameter slewing bearings connect the base structures to the loading arms. Each slewing bearing uses 144 SmartBolts (2” x 16”). Installers use SmartBolts 230 klbf to determine the amount of torque required to reach a safe bolt preload.

13 Industrial Automation / Robotic Arc Welders / Caterpillar Work Tools
Keep Manufacturing Up and Running “We decided to retrofit our robots with SmartBolts – now the maintenance technician can look over during welding and visually check that the bolts are secure. It’s had a positive impact on improving our overall safety and manufacturing efficiency.” Operator Caterpillar Work Tools SmartBolts are used on clamps that hold steel plates to be welded. The plates are inverted during the welding process, creating a safety risk. With the previous design, operators didn’t always adequately tighten all of the clamps, risking the part slipping free during the process. Customer designed new clamps featuring SmartBolts as a safety benefit. Operators now use the indicator as a visual audit check to ensure workpiece is secure before starting welding cycle.

14 Improve Safety & Reliability
Manufacturing / Injection Molding / Cooper Standard Automotive Improve Safety & Reliability “We experienced less downtime and with the added safety – it was an easy decision to replace all our mold clamping bolts with SmartBolts. And the appreciation our operators have expressed is priceless!” Yajie Wang, Advanced Process Engineer Cooper Standard Automotive Cooper Standard manufactures plastic parts for the automotive industry using 900 ton presses. SmartBolts secure the 15 ton dies to the platen. Improves reliability by keeping the die secure and properly aligned for optimum performance. Improves technician safety and reduces changeover time by eliminating cumbersome torque wrench checks. Provides a visual audit check that all key bolts are secure.

15 Structural / Slewing Bearings / Agrico Sales
Reliable Installation & Maintenance “As Project Manager, I wanted to be completely confident that the installation crews were getting these critical bolts properly tightened during assembly and that they were staying tight. That’s exactly why SmartBolts are now our standard.” Gary Handbury, West Coast Corporate Manager Agrico Sales Agrico Sales designs and builds shiploader cranes. Three 12-foot diameter slewing bearings connect the base structures of the crane to the swinging loading arms. Each slewing bearing uses inch diameter SmartBolts. “The three main slewing bearings of [Agrico’s] shiploaders connect the base structures to the loading arms and allow them to swing to reach various cargo hold in the ship.” Agrico Sales designs and build shiploader cranes. Structural / Slewing Bearings / Agrico Sales Agrico Sales, Continued These photos show installation of SmartBolts into the main slewing bearings of a shiploader Agrico built for Bunge in 2016. The SmartBolts have a design tension of 225 klbf to ensure that the proper preload is achieved during installation. The indicator response enabled installers to set their pneumatic torque tool so that they apply the necessary torque level to properly preload each bolt.
