2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF THE CASE
ABOUT THE BANK: The frontier national bank was the oldest ,biggest and the most profitable bank in the USA but after the Vietnam war it started losing it’s market standing and profitability due to which the directors of the bank started looking for a new chief executive officer. ABOUT ROSS ABERNATHY : Ross was elected as the president of the bank.He was clear about what needed to be done and all he needed was a team to work with which he didn’t find in the current human resource of the bank, so he went to take advice from his two professors and his lawyer. Although he found himself stuck in a dilemma when he was not able to decide which advice to take as all three were inescapable.Now Ross has to analyze all the three alternatives keeping in mind their pros and cons, risks, morale problems and morale advantages and choose the best alternatives

3 SITUATION ANALYSIS Ross Abernathy after few negotiations accepted the position of the president of the frontier national bank which once was the most profitable bank but was now losing it’s market standing. Ross was reasonably clear about what needed to be done but he needed a team to do it. He took advice from two of his former professors and a lawyer who led his former Chicago bank’s legal business. Although he was surprised when had difficulty deciding which advice to follow.

4 DEFINE THE PROBLEM Ross knew what he had to do to work towards improving the market standing of the bank but he needed a team to do it which he couldn’t find in the human resource of the bank. The old executives of the bank were incompetent and lacked enthusiasm to work and their juniors weren’t any different, they were even more dispirited. He needed a competent, energetic and self motivated team that could help him bring back the profitability of the bank He was stuck in a dilemma, he was not able to decide whether he should form a team from within the bank or bring in his Chicago team or bring in professionals with whom he has never worked with.

5 DECISIONS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN
How to improve the profitability of the bank How to form a team that will help him get back the profitability of the bank. Should he form the team out of the bank’s human resource and help them improve their performance standard or should he bring in his Chicago team with whom he has worked before or should he hire professionals of the field.

6 ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS
ALTERNATIVE 1 : Firstly he can form a team in which the old members of the bank will be there as they know the working environment of the bank. He can help them improve their performance standard and help them get where he wants to reach ALTERNATIVE 2 : He can choose his own team of his well known associates and with whom he will feel comfortable in working . By this he will be able to perform much better and will able to achieve maximum result in rather little time. ALTERNATIVE 3 : Third alternative can be to hire the professional of every field to get the work done more efficiently. Like in finance marketing human resource sector needs a supervision of professional.

7 PROS AND CONS OF ALL POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
ALTERNATIVES PROS CONS If he forms a team from the bank’s human resources Unity among the employees and familiar with the work environment. Loss of utilizing of talent of Chicago branch . high workload. if he will bring in his Chicago team Familiar with the strength and weaknesses and can easily work with them. Unaware about the problems . If he brings professionals Specialized inputs by the experts . Can come with the best solutions for the problem. Trust issues. High amount of salary.

8 BEST ALTERNATIVE According to us the best alternative would be bringing in his Chicago team with whom he has worked before. Since he understands his team and his team understands him it will be easy to work with them and he won’t have to waste time in understanding their strengths and weaknesses and like his professor said his team would know what performance means and what performance means to him. The business decisions will be more efficient and he will be able to achieve results in little time.

9 EXECUTIVE PLAN He can bring in his Chicago team and he can also involve the existing employees of the bank in the decisions and make his Chicago team guide them which will improve their performance standard and boast their morale Ross can offer better salary and other benefits to the existing employees which will help increase their morale. He should focus all his decisions on improving the profitability of the bank The reasons for the looses should be analyzed and worked upon.
