Prepping your travelers for upcoming REAL ID deadline
The deadline for the REAL ID Act, which requires travelers carrying a driver’s license from certain U.S. states and territories to carry a second U.S. government-approved form of ID, is January 22, States that were previously non-compliant must meet federal requirements to add extra security features to their driver’s licenses by the deadline. Your travelers who reside in a non-compliant state could be impacted and will soon be required to use an alternative approved ID, which include a U.S. passport or a military ID in addition to their state-issued driver’s license.   What can travel managers do? We encourage you to share this information with your travelers via your usual communication channels. Encourage them to check the compliance status of their state or territory. If their state or territory is not compliant, they must use a U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s approved list of acceptable IDs when they board domestic flights.   By October 2020, all air travelers will be required to carry a REAL ID-compliant license OR another acceptable form of identification to travel domestically by air. 3. TSA to Stop Accepting Driver's Licenses From Five States - Update
REAL ID Act – Enforcement Timeline
December 15, 2016, TSA will expanded outreach at airport checkpoints through signage, handouts, and other methods.
January 22, 2018, passengers with driver’s license issued by a non-compliant state now required to show alternative form of acceptable identification for domestic air travel. 
Starting October 1, 2020, every air traveler will need a REAL ID-compliant license, or another acceptable form of identification, for domestic air travel.
To date, the following states have an extension for acceptance at Federal facilities and nuclear power plants until October 10, 2017 and have filed for an extension for the Real ID compliant license needed for TSA airport security.
