2 Islam Origins: Founded in Saudi Arabia around 622 AD
Founded by Muhammad Believed in one god, Allah “Islam” = submission to god “Muslim” = a person who submits to god

Would often retreat to a mtn near Makkah to pray & meditate In 610, Muhammad had a vision of the Angel Gabriel giving him the word of god

Muhammad returned to Makkah and began to preach the word of god as he heard them Wealthy & powerful pagan traders forced Muhammad & his growing group of followers to leave Makkah

Fled to Madinah, where he amassed enough followers to militarily defeat Makkah Upon return to Makkah, Muhammad circled the Ka’aba & smashed the pagan idols within
