2 Interesting Facts Thomson showed great academic success at a young age, he went to college at 14 years old He was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1906 for the discovery of the electron

3 Problem with Dalton’s model
The Dalton's atomic theory was proposed by Dalton on the basis of laws of chemical combination. He stated that there could be nothing smaller than an atom, despite the fact that there was not any real evidence that this was the case.

4 Experimental design J.J. Thomson realized that he could deflect the cathode rays in an electric field produced by a pair of metal plates. One of the plates was negatively charged and deflected the cathode rays, while the other was positively charged and attracted them.

5 What he got out of his experiment
From his experiment he discovered that atoms had negatively charged electrons inside of it, from the cathode ray bending towards the plate, he figured out that the atom was divisible, because of finding out that the atom was made up of smaller parts

6 Why JJ Thompson Performed His Own Experiment
He wanted to explain the phenomenon of the light appearing in the tube to previous scientists He wanted to find out if the atom was made up of separate parts, or if it was really indivisible (Daltons Theory)

7 He came up with the plum pudding model from the evidence that he gathered from his experiment. By seeing the cathode ray move towards the plate, he was able to conclude that the atom must have negatively charged electrons in it
