1 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. LUKE 14:28-30

2 Since Her Building is Over… Luke 14:28-30
Remembering Sis. Barbara Watson (June 10, 2017)

3 On behalf of the Fiske Blvd Church of Christ, I extend our sincere condolences to the family and all that have been impacted by the passing of our Sis. Barbara Watson! Sis. Watson was a loved member of our church family and will be missed to say the least. SALUTATION

4 The theme of this message finds it’s anchor in the fact that I was made to know that Sis. Watson and her husband Bro. L .W. Watson owned a construction company (Watson Masonry) for several years. There are structures in our community that will always attest to the fact that they were here! Hence the tie to Luke 14:28-30 Regarding the text of Luke 14, Jesus Christ had taught those present regarding the conditions of being a disciple. He suggested both sacrifice, as well as, His having the preeminence if one would follow Him (Luke 14:25-27). By the time one arrives at the specific pericaby of text we consider today, the angle of discipleship is that of the cost one should consider if he / she is to be His disciple (Luke 14:28-30). INTRODUCTION

5 A. Intend - to have in mind as a purpose or goal
(Merriam-Webster). B. Always be sure to include God in what you intend… (James 4:13-15). 1. To plan without God is to plan to fail! (Therefore make Him first Matthew 6:33, Col. 1:18) SHE INTENDED Luke 14:28

6 SHE CONSIDERED Luke 14:28b & c
A. Consider - to think about carefully: such as a: to think of especially with regard to taking some action. B. Sis. Watson proved to be a person of faith through her conduct. See James 2:14-26 because belief without action is useless! 1. We as a church family were witnesses to Sis. Watson’s dedication. We all could benefit from a confidence like that of the apostle Paul (2 Timothy 4:6-8). SHE CONSIDERED Luke 14:28b & c

7 SHE FINISHED Luke 14:29 A. Intention, consideration, and execution
allows one to realize completion of the intended matter (Paul said – I have finished my course 2 Timothy 4:7b). B. We must run intending to receive the prize! (1 Corinthians 9:24) C. For the child of God is it suggested that one be faithful! (Revelations 2:10) SHE FINISHED Luke 14:29

8 NOW WHAT? Luke 14:30 A. After Dorcas died, there was sorrow,
weeping, and remembering (Acts 9:39) (The whole scenario is noted in Acts 9:36-42) B. After Lazarus died, Jesus, Mary, and Jewish people at the grave side wept(John 11:33-36). It was stated “behold how he loved him!”(John 11:36) NOW WHAT? Luke 14:30
