Interdisciplinary Combining or involving two or more academic disciplines or fields of study. Combining or involving two or more professions, technologies, departments, or the like, as in business or industry.

Cost of Health Care Started out of Since 1999, the United States (U.S.) healthcare delivery system has been transforming in profound and fundamental ways in response to the publication of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, To err is human This report introduced concerns about the quality of the U.S. healthcare system and the inability of health professionals to work together in teams. The “new” IPE It’s about improving health, creating support systems and trying different models of practice. It intentionally supports people – including health professionals, health workers, students, residents, patients, families and communities – to learn together every day to enhance collaboration and improve health outcomes while reducing costs

Challenges to Inter-professional Experiences
Organizational and structural scheduling and timing differences among programs appropriate student mix geographic separation lack of adequate clinical sites for interdisciplinary experience financial reimbursement Academic and professional overlapping and converging roles with potential loss of disciplinary identity need for faculty development identifying core content and shared experiences selecting disciplines to be involved finding and training appropriate mentors
