SC6 Perspectives SC6 was a right place for standardization on telecommunication protocols E.g., OSI 7 Layer Protocols Future Network is an emerging standardization issue in telecommunication area as one of next decade topics GENI, IETF/IRTF in the US ITU-T SG13 Efforts FN works should be built up as early as possible. The efforts may be almost aligned with possible ITU-T SG13 activities on Future Network.

Clarification of Terminology Future network is considering the network of the future, which is not limited to the future of the Internet. The clarification on FN and NGN of ITU-T Future Network NGN of ITU-T Future Network is the Network of the Future Packet based Technologies but assuming IP-based Network Architecture No specific network technologies are pre-assumed Evolution from the current IP-based Network Long-term Revolutionary Approach Short/Mid-term Evolutionary Approach

Network Architectures Various approach on new network architecture to provide enhanced communication services for emerging applications Some ideas, concepts and experiences from the emerging issues such as sensor, wireless networking and NGN, may provide possible solutions for the Future Network Identification is one of the most important issues. Global inter-working and harmonization issues need to be addressed.

Revolutionary approach must be considered for the Future Network The future network should not dependent on the current emerging technologies and solutions. And, the backward compatibility may not be required.

It is intended to deliver a Technical Report (TR) on Future Network : Problem Statement and Requirements (TR.FNPSR). Summary of Voting on SC 6 Yes (10), Abstain (5), No Voting (4) Approved ( ).

TR.FNPSR - Scope 1. This work introduces the description, rationale and general concepts of Future Network to understand the reason why the concept of Future Network is proposed at this moment and what’s the scope of research on Future Network. 2. This work describes the gap between Future Network and other future technologies. 3. Finally, it discuss milestone on how to move forward.

Liaison to ITU-T SG13 Further to the recommendation made by ITU-T SG13 New Question on Future Network, ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6/WG7 encourages ITU-T SG13 to participate to this work and to refer to our reference architecture model in their work. Also, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6 efforts may be almost aligned with possible ITU-T SG13 activities on Future Network (e.g., Common Text).

Summary It’s time for contribution.
Active participation and collaboration b/w CJK are required. The SC6 works may be almost aligned with possible activities for the next study period of ITU-T SG13.
