1 God is Great! God is Good! Psalm 145:1-13

2 Evil Moral Evil Natural Evil Supernatural Evil

3 God and Evil “But He is unchangeable, and who can turn Him back? What He desires, that He does.” Job 23:13 “The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and his Kingdom rules over all.” Psalm 103:19 “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke and it came to be; He commanded and it stood firm. The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.” Psalm 33 “The Lord kills, and brings to life; He brings down to the grave and raises up. The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and He exalts.” 1 Samuel 2:6-7 “Is a trumpet blown in a city and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city unless the Lord has done it?” Amos 3:6

4 God and Evil “For the Lord of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?” Isaiah 14:27 “remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient time things not yet done, saying My counsel shall stand and I will accomplish all my purpose.” Isaiah 46:9-10 “In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.” Ephesians 1:11

5 God is great! And God is good!
God wills evil to exist, and God has a purpose for evil. “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive as they are today.” Genesis 50:20 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Jesus, Luke 22:31-32

6 God is great! And God is good!
God wills evil to exist, and God has a purpose for evil. Suffering is not an “essential” good, but it is an “instrumental” good. “And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

7 God is great! And God is good!
God wills evil to exist, and God has a purpose for evil. Suffering is not an “essential” good, but it is an “instrumental” good. We are incapable of knowing all the answers. “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and our children forever, that we may do all the words of His law.” Deuteronomy 29:29

8 God is great! And God is good!
God wills evil to exist, and God has a purpose for evil. Suffering is not an “essential” good, but it is an “instrumental” good. We are incapable of knowing all the answers. We must make a choice.

9 Because God is great… Glorify Him. “I will extol you my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.” (v.1) Praise Him. “Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” (vv.2-4) Be Amazed. “On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works I will meditate.” (v.5) Proclaim Him. “They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.” (vv.6-7)

10 Because God is good… Thank Him. “All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you!” (v.10) Proclaim Him. “They shall speak of the glory of your Kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your Kingdom.” (vv.11-12) Benefit from Him. “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.” (v.13)
