Union Commander= William Sherman Confederate Commander= John Bell Hood Union forces soundly defeat Hood capturing overwhelming his lines and capturing the city Significance: Propels Lincoln to win 1864 election Aftermath: Sherman goes on a March to the Sea (Savannah) using total warfare

Final battle of the war Union Commander= Grant Confederate Commander= Lee Lee was forced to surrender the Richmond and was attempting to join up with remaining Confederate forces Union forces cut him off at Appomattox Union #’s = 100,000 Confed #’s = 28,000
