CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES
Establishing ground rules…WHY? Hold students accountable Reduce issues of incivility Understand expectations of instructor and classmates Students hold each other accountable Act as a contract that can be referred to Create a safe learning environment Cornell University Center for Teaching Excellence (2012).

PROBLEM #1 The Interrupter. This student interrupts everyone without discrimination, no matter what the topic of discussion is.

PROBLEM #2 Late Arrivals. This student or group of students arrives late to class every day during the first week of class.

PROBLEM #3 Disruptions. Student’s phone is ringing or beeping due to incoming calls or text messages. This is distracting to the instructor and other students. In a small class, students can help to develop classroom rules.

Problem #4 Participation. Student refuses to speak or participate in class activities.

Problem #5 Plagiarism. Student copies information from the internet or book without citations.
