There is a balance to being open and vulnerable and becoming self-centered and self-serving Paul’s greater interest was on ministry to the Colossians Tychicus was sent to encourage them

An Arduous Journey Paul was in prison in Rome and it would be a major undertaking to get a letter to the Colossians Paul also sent additional letters to the Ephesians, to Philemon, and to the Philippians (by Epaphroditus)

An Arduous Journey All routes would have been arduous with many dangers - weather, supplies, injury, robbers Paul would have written very thoughtfully – the cost and risk were too great to send anything less

Tychicus He is first mentioned in Acts 20:4 when he is with Paul in Greece on the way back to Jerusalem

Onesimus A runaway slave that met Paul in Rome and was converted and is returning voluntarily to his master Though young in the Lord, he already become beloved to Paul and demonstrated himself to be faithful He had the characteristics of one raised up with Christ (Colossians 3) and would be an example to them
