Student Accounts and Financial Aid:
What each parent needs to know right now

Student Accounts Introduction:
The Student Accounts Office handles various items affecting the student account. This includes: Generating the student bill Processing student payments Processing refunds Overseeing the TMS Payment Plan Generating and mailing year end 1098-T filings

Student Bills Student bills are mailed on a monthly basis. The due date is listed on the bill and are due the first day of classes. Bills are also available on the myHaven portal. Bills contain the following information: Charges (tuition, fees, room & board, etc.) Waivers/Financial Aid Balance due & Payment methods

Student Bills Student bills can be paid in the following manners:
Online: Through the Myhaven portal Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover) Credit card companies charge a 2.39% convenience fee Electronic Check (eCheck)--No additional fee By Mail: Student Accounts Lock Haven University 401 N Fairview St Ulmer 224 Lock Haven, PA 17745 In Person: Bring the payment to our office at 224A Ulmer

Refunds Students should be on the look out for an from the Student Accounts Office in regards to refunds. Each student will need to select a preference on how they would like to receive any refund that they are entitled to.

Refunds Each student that enrolls at Lock Haven University will receive an at their LHU address from the Student Accounts Office. This will contain a link to Money Network for the student to click on to select how they will receive any refund that they may get throughout their time at Lock Haven University. Once they receive the , they will simply view their choices and make their selection. It is best to do this even if they think that they won’t have any refunds so that they are covered either way.

Tuition Rates Tuition Rates for the State System Schools are established and voted on annually by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Board of Governors’ (BOG). The Board of Governors’ typically meets in early July. Once tuition rates are established, the bills are generated and mailed.

Financial Aid Office Introduction:
The Financial Aid Office goal is to help students and their families throughout the entire, somewhat challenging, financial aid process. 87% of all LHU students receive some form of financial aid each year. Of the aid processed annually, $36 million just in Direct loan funds. The average LHU student will graduate with student loan debt in the amount of $24,000.

What to do now… Filed, Received and Completed:
New LHU students who intend to receive financial aid have already completed these steps. Filed a complete, signed FAFSA Received a Financial Aid Award Letter Completed Federal Verification, if selected. Finalize and Secure: What students should be doing now: Finalize financial aid sources that have been awarded to the student, (Loans, PA State Grant) Secure additional loans to cover any unpaid educational expenses if needed. (PLUS or Private)

Finalizing Direct Student Loans
Direct Student Loan Requirements After receiving a financial aid award that includes student loans, there are two additional requirements that must be completed by the student prior to the funds being sent to LHU. Entrance Counseling Master Promissory Note

Finalizing Direct Student Loans Entrance Counseling & Master Promissory Note Completed online at Student will log in with his/her Federal Student Aid ID and password. Allow 30 minutes to complete If a student does not wish to receive the loan, he/she may cancel it by completing a Loan Change/ Cancellation Form. (Located on the Financial Aid section of the LHU website, under forms)

Finalizing the Pennsylvania State Grant
If eligible, all first time recipients must complete a Pennsylvania State Grant Form. How to determine whether this is complete: Online at --each student should create an account and log in via the “Account Access” tab. By phone: call PHEAA at

Securing Additional Loans
Two additional loan options available: Direct PLUS Loan for Parents and/or Private Alternative Loan Research now and apply immediately after receiving the fall semester bill. Processing times can take up 6 weeks. Apply each year.

Securing Additional Loans Direct PLUS Loan
Federal loan program for the parent. Apply each year online at with parent’s FSA ID and password. Credit check required. If denied the loan, the student may be eligible for an additional unsubsidized Direct Student Loan of up to $4000 for the year. More information available on the Financial Aid web page under “Types of Financial Aid”.

Securing Additional Loans Private Alternative Loan
An educational loan from a private bank. Non-government supported program. Majority of the loans are for a student borrower with a cosigner, however there are some that are available for other types of barrowers including parents/others. Research various loan products. A listing of lenders used by LHU students can be found at
