The Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust
Consultation Meeting
2
All schools involved in the proposed MAT have common ethics and values.
3
Why, and why now? The pace of reforms and expectation of achievement is being scaled up like never before. Developing a multi-academy trust affords us a once in a lifetime opportunity to raise the bar.
4
Not a slow pace of change…
2% all schools 8% all schools 11% all schools 14% all schools 19% all schools 25% all schools 29% all schools As of March 2017 England has 2,718 schools in Multi-Academy Trust Academy Chains, and 897 of these were approved last year alone. 63% of all secondary schools in England are Academies. (including those seeking Academy Orders, we have 69% of secondary schools)
7
Academies – what are they?
Independent state schools. Answerable to the Secretary of State. Companies limited by guarantee. Governed by the Academy Trust, with many duties delegated to a Governing Body.
8
Types of Academies Old styled ‘transformational’ sponsored academies (pre-2010). Converter Academies (since 2010) e.g. Bradworthy Primary, QE Crediton. Sponsoring Academies e.g. Launceston College. Sponsored Academies e.g. Bideford College. Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) e.g. Education South West, Ted Wragg Trust, First Federation, Venturus.

Sustainability not change
The Dartmoor MAT - “putting community back into community schools”. Schools in the MAT were chosen because they are restlessly ambitious for young peoples’ achievements. We can protect the outstanding ethos of our schools that might disappear through sponsorship. We will have greater freedom to spend our money where we think it will most benefit our children.
13
Vision for The Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust
To provide the highest possible quality of education for all local children, in order to ensure pupils from all backgrounds are able to succeed. The Trust will be cross-phase; from pre-school to age 19. We will educate the whole child through a rich and deep curriculum. The Trust will have a co-operative ethos incorporating British values and retain the ethos of each school including church schools. The Trust will be underpinned by a top quality Teaching School (The Dartmoor Teaching School Alliance). The Trust will mirror existing staff terms and conditions and will recognise from the outset the importance of retaining and attracting staff of the highest calibre. We believe in the benefits to the community of local schools and would therefore always attempt to maintain rural schools subject to their viability.
