Room 23 March 13-17, 2017 Language Arts This week we started a new theme, “Animals Grow and Change.” Throughout the week we talked about how animals change as they grow from babies to adults. We created mental images while listening to the story, One Tiny Turtle. In this story, we learned about the life cycle of a loggerhead turtle and learned many interesting facts about these turtles. We also read the story, What a Duck! about a goose that grows up with ducklings who aren’t very nice to him, but does something honorable for his brothers and sisters in the end! Word Study This week we practiced the long/e/ sound. We learned and practiced with the vowel teams ee, and ea. We practiced adding and taking away letters to form new words. We added new words to our word wall. green, each, read, about, been Please practice these at home! Please make sure you are reviewing our phonics skills at home. Spelling is becoming much harder for some students. 2 Alternates for the week:
Social Studies We read two books, Crow Boy and Little Oh! From Crow Boy, we discovered our hidden talents just like Chibi from the story did and wrote about them. We practiced sequencing with Little Oh! and sequenced the events in order. Supplies Needed! Students are running low on glue sticks! I am more than happy to give them what I have, however I am running low as well! If you are out shopping, and happen to see them, please consider donating some glue sticks to our classroom. I would really appreciate it.  Math This week finished chapters 12 and 16, Numbers to 40 & 100. Next week, mental math! We have been practicing making numbers with place value charts, comparing numbers to 100 using various strategies, recognizing number patterns by adding or subtracting, and counting and reading numbers to 100. Please practice addition/subtraction facts with your child at home as they are going to get much harder! Please also practice skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s!
