Workshop on MAI/CART assessment
HOD 50 agreed that ”…..the MAI/CART assessment methodology workshop will be organized in February 2017 when the recent assessment results are as ready as possible.” At present it is not wise to decide on a date, but we still expect the WS in February – we should send invitation at the latest 2-3 month before the WS Proposed items for WS agenda: Presentation of draft assessments results on MAI/CART based on PLC data Introduction of applied MAI/CART assessment methodology How was assessment dataset established Estimating uncertainty on input data Flow normalization Trend analysis including breakpoint detection

Workshop on MAI/CART assessment
Changes in inputs Test of CART fulfilment Discussion on applied assessment methodology: Flow-normalization – how to take into account development i run off if any? How to statistical detect development in inputs to Baltic Sea sub-bassin from CP’s: Using break points If the trend is significant but non-linear? Evaluation CART (and MAI) fulfillment: Use all information in the time series and estimate statistically latest years inputs? Use x years average – but not include all information off the time series How to estimate the uncertainty and take it into account

Workshop on MAI/CART assessment
Transboundary inputs and retention – revised data will require revision of CART!? Revised dataset change reference inputs – need to revise CART’s? Do we sufficiently take into account the methodology for quantifying inputs and uncertainties are rather different in CP and for transboundary inputs including deposition Outline: Presentation of the outline of the scientific report Discussion of how to present the policy message with the three main issues: Are the reduction targets acheived? What is the distance from the target? What is the trend in inputs?

Workshop on MAI/CART assessment
How to present key message/show the main results policy focused, simplistic, with the main message without compromising with science and should result be present CP by sub-basin (CART) How can we present distance from the target (tons, % missing, how many years before fulfilment with present trend in inputs or ???) Take into account extra reduction??? Trend in inputs when trend are not linear – how to show it simple Divide workshop in a technical and policy part – over 1½ day in February 2017
