Anatomy And Appearance
-the spotted turtle has a smooth black shell with spattered yellow and orange spots. It weighs between ½ to ¾ ponds. Its height is 67cm and the width is 100cm

What does it eat? The spotted turtle gets its energy from eating slugs , snails , crustaceans , tadpoles , dead fish , algae , aquatic vegetation , and cranberries

Habitat And Range They live in Eastern North America in Maine Ontario Florida and Michigan the spotted turtle can be found around lake Ontario lake Erie lake Huron and lake Michigan but it is not found around lake Superior. It prefers to live in marshy meadows , swamps , bogs , small ponds , shallows of lakes , cypress swamps , Carolina bays and brackish waters of tidal streams , and all of witch have soft bottoms. They live in eastern north America in Maine , Ontario florida and michigan ,

Life Cycle The spotted turtle life cycle is it starts as a egg then grows into a baby turtle then it becomes a big turtle then it just keeps reproducing

What Makes The Spotted Turtle Unique
The spotted turtle are diurnal but prefer cooler temperatures so that they are most active all days in April for example but as the season warms they are active in early mornings and late during the heat of the summer they hide in the mud at the bottom of ponds to keep cool move to cooler water

Habitat Destruction The lost of habitat is because ponds and wet lands are drained for development and to increase arable farmland many spotted turtle population are fragmented, spearated by roads and developments which results in less genetic variation polluted ponds and wetland resulting from roads and farms run off also effects these turtles.

Conservation In Canada the spotted turtle is federally endangered while in united states the spotted turtle is not currently listed in the federal endangered species but it is listed in the IUCN red book as vulnerable to extinction in the wild in the medium-term future , or threatened in most of its habituating states in Indiana , the spotted turtle is listed as an endangered species.

How Can We Help The Spotted Turtle
We can help the spotted turtle by… -Being careful where you are driving. -reporting when you see a spotted turtle. -remove invasive reeds that take over the home of a spotted turtle. By Being careful where your driving because they can be as small as a almond. By reporting when you saw it , what time and what day and one more way you can help the spotted turtle is by removing all the invasive reeds before they take over the spotted turtles homes , witch reeds are a tall slender leaved plant of the grass family that grows in water or marshy ground. -

VS The different between turtles and tortoises is tortoises have stumpy feet and live on land and turtles live in oceans. Turtles snap up on sea creatures and tortoises eat juicy plants. But they both have hard Horney beaks.

Spotted turtles often emerge from hibernation when there is still partial ice cover Most female and male turtles look a little bit different ; in the case of spotted turtles , females have bright orange eyes and chins where males ‘ are dark brown and black - The spotted turtle is relatively social. It congregates to breed in the spring and also often hibernates in groups. Females even nest together in some sites
