4 Dental plaque is a biofilm, usually a pale yellow, that develops naturally on the teeth. Like any biofilm, dental plaque is formed by colonizing bacteria trying to attach themselves to the tooth's smooth surface.

5 This biofilm will be the main factor to cause cavities.
To prevent it: 1. Have good oral self care Brush 2 times a day Floss at least once a day 2. Visit your dental hygienist regularly – as recommended.

Two main factors contribute to tooth decay -- bacteria and a diet high in sugar and starch. A low salivary flow or dry mouth leaves the teeth more vulnerable to tooth decay (mouth breathing). Caries(cavity) Contribution
