YEAR 6 PGL TRIP Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th July PGL Boreatton Park Shropshire PARENT INFORMATION EVENING 5th June 2014

Welcome. I hope that you find this evening informative. The aim of this evening is to share with you more information about the holiday ensuring you and your child get the most out of the 3 days.

Boreatton Park Boreatton is situated near Shrewsbury, 1½-2 hours drive from Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. A former mansion house, Boreatton Park is situated within 250 acres of superb grounds including three lakes, a sandstone cliff and a river. The centre has a huge choice of activities from abseiling to zip wire and an impressive range of facilities - with a good mix of both indoor and outdoor activities to ensure a fantastic time whatever the weather!

As the largest centre- Boreatton Park has impressive facilities and has recently benefitted from a £1 million upgrade investment. New sports and indoor activity hall Heated indoor swimming pool Crazy Moose venue and bar Extended dining room Football pitch and playing fields Meeting rooms / classrooms Drying rooms Overnight sickbay Sports hall for team games Shop Tents- Same as in previous years up to 4 children in each.

Sample Itinerary 07.00 - PGL staff wake up the group
Breakfast (English or Continental, cereal, toast and drinks) First activity session Break Second activity session Hot lunch or packed lunch Third activity session Break Fourth activity session Supervised free time course evening meal Evening entertainment. Group Leaders assist Party Leaders until From there will be PGL staff on active night duty. Through the night there will always be a senior PGL staff member on call.

PGL Adventure Centres Our school had visited this site on several trips and the facilities are wonderful. PGL have been providing adventure holidays to children since 1957. Last year’s group thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

First Aid Qualified First Aiders are always available at the centre.
First aid kits are taken to activities. We, and PGL staff, control the risks to avoid any injuries / accidents.

Wednesday Bring child to school at the normal time 8.50am
Drop off child and bag in hall- parents are welcome to pop in and say their goodbyes and hand in any medical items/ money. Please hand any medicines/tablets to Mrs Lyon clearly named in the morning. (including hayfever medication etc) dosage Please hand money (£5.00) to Mr Robinson- clearly named in an envelope. Children to take a packed lunch and drink in disposable packaging for the first day. We will take children’s water bottles for the rest of the trip. Our coach picks us up from school at 9.15am if parents would like to wave goodbye. We will arrive at PGL at approximately 11.00am

Friday We leave Boreatton Park at approximately 1pm after lunch and intend to be back in school for 3pm. Parents are welcome to collect children at this time from the coach, please ensure you inform a member of staff if this is the case. Siblings can be collected early. Children that cannot be collected will remain with staff until 3.25pm. If we are due to arrive earlier/ later we will contact parents via a text message. Please ensure your contact details are up to date at the office.

During our stay We have never had any reason in the past to contact parents. Daytime: contact school. Evening: contact emergency mobile number (on letter in pack)

Luggage – please name it
Luggage – please name it! Hand luggage, one bag per person Ensure your child has helped you to pack it. Ensure waterproof jacket is waterproof and not just showerproof!)

Items not to be taken Mobile phones or handheld games/consoles
I pods/ MP3 players Jewellery- can be dangerous and get lost. Anything valuable. Expensive cameras- disposable are best. Snacks?!

Behaviour Always be polite to instructors and other centre staff.
Exceptional behaviour is expected at all times and it is imperative in ensuring that we all have a happy and safe time. Always be polite to instructors and other centre staff. Always follow instructions immediately. Remember to tidy away after yourself when you have finished a meal. Tell someone if you are unhappy or feeling unwell.

Safety All safety equipment is provided by PGL. Children are told how to use the equipment before they start the activity and centre leaders check it is fastened, fits etc. The site is very safe and secure. There is always a member of PGL staff on call over night.

Groups There will be two separate groupings: Tent groups
Activity groups. Our activities will be confirmed shortly we have requested activities that children from previous groups have really enjoyed: Raft building Abseiling Giant swing leap of faith

Food All dietary requirements need to be identified before we go.
Sample menu could include: Breakfast – choice of cereals and hot breakfast items Lunch – jacket potatoes with choice of fillings and salad bar Dinner – pasta bolognaise/fish cake/cheese onion and potato pie with chips and peas followed by ice cream sponge roll
