6 Gordon B. Hinckley general conference, April 1995
“This is a time to be strong. It is a time to move forward without hesitation, knowing well the meaning, the breadth and the importance of our mission. It is a time to do what is right regardless of the consequences that might follow. It is a time to be found keeping the commandments.”

7 Revelation 9 Wars and Wickedness

8 Wars to Precede His Coming
“John the Beloved wrote concerning the history of the inhabitants of the earth to the end of time. It can hardly be disputed that he saw the manners and customs of the peoples of future generations, their wars and contentions, their methods of warfare and means of transportation.” Joseph Fielding Smith, The Progress of Man

9 Revelation 9:7-10 “It is not improbable that these ancient prophets were seeing strong armor and troops of cavalry and companies of tanks and flame throwers; airplanes and airborne missiles…” (Elder McConkie, Doctrinal New Testament Commentary, 3:503).

10 Rev 9:7?

11 Rev 9:8?

12 Rev 9:9?

13 Rev 9: 10

14 “It is not improbable that these ancient prophets were seeing such things as men wearing or protected by strong armor; as troops of cavalry and companies of tanks and flame throwers; as airplanes and airborne missiles which explode, fire shells and drop bombs; and even other weapons yet to be devised in an age when warfare is the desire and love of wicked men. And perhaps John is seeing such things as the effects of poisonous gas or bacteriological warfare, or atomic fallout, which disable but do not kill” (Bruce McConkie, DNTC, 3:502)

15 Revelation 9 Wars and Wickedness

16 In what manners are murders being committed (or depicted) today? Theft
REVELATION 9:20-21 “They repented they not of their murders, nor of their thefts , nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication.” Murder In what manners are murders being committed (or depicted) today? Theft In what ways do thefts occur today? Sorceries In what ways do sorceries occur today? Pharmakeia (Gr). “Pharmacy” Fornication In what ways does fornication occur today? Porneia (Gr). “Pornographic”

17 Revelation 9 1 John 1:7 “Sin” singular - nature of sin within us.
“Sins” plural - acts of sinning as the fruits of our sinful nature Sin is the disease and sins are the symptoms - and the atonement can take care of both! We see sins as we see skyscrapers - from a side view. God sees sins from an aerial view - looking down.

18 Application for Preparation
What are you doing to distance yourself from sins or “anything like unto” them? (D&C 59:6)? Are you free from “murder”? Do you ever “steal” things? Are you free from drug use? Are you free from pornography?

23 Adam-Ondi-Ahman D&C 107:53-57 What does ‘Adam Ondi Ahman’ mean?
"Ahman is one of the names by which God was known to Adam. Adam-ondi-Ahman, a name carried over from the pure Adamic language into English, is one for which we have not been given a revealed, literal translation. As near as we can judge, Adam-ondi-Ahman means the place or land of God where Adam dwelt.” Mormon Doctrine, 19-20 D&C 107:53-57

24 Adam-Ondi-Ahman "The Priesthood was first given to Adam and he held the keys of the First Presidency from generation to generation. He obtained it in the Creation, before the world was formed and they empower their holders to direct the manner in which others use their priesthood." (Teachings, pp )

25 Is this purely LDS Doctrine? Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
“While there, we laid out a city on a high elevated piece of land “The Prophet Joseph called upon Brigham Young , myself and others, saying, ‘Brethren, come go along with me, and I will show you something.’ He led us a short distance to a place where were the ruins of three altars built of stone, one above the other, and one standing a little back of the other. ‘There,’ said Joseph, ‘is the place where Adam offered up sacrifice after he was cast out of the garden.’ The altar stood at the highest point of the bluff. I went and examined the place several times while I remained there” (Life of Heber C. Kimball, August 1838, pp ). Is this purely LDS Doctrine? Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14

26 1st Woe – 1st Appearance – Adam Ondi Ahman
“Before any of his appearances, He will come in private to his prophet and to the apostles. Those who have held keys and powers and authorities in all ages from Adam to the present will be present”.   Elder Bruce R. McConkie

27 PURPOSE OF Adam Ondi Ahman?
“Every prophet, apostle, president, or church officer -- all who have held keys -- shall stand before him who holds all of the keys. They will then be called upon to give an account of their stewardships and to report how and in what manner they have used their priesthood and their keys. The Son of Man stands before him. Adam delivers up his stewardship to Christ but retains his standing as head of the human family.” The Millennial Messiah (Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1982), pp Elder Bruce R. McConkie

28 1st Woe – 1st Appearance – Adam Ondi Ahman
“Adam-Ondi-Ahman will be the most momentous event of this earth.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, The Way to Perfection, p. 289) “Adam-Ondi-Ahman will adjust the affairs of the world.” (John Taylor, the Gospel Kingdom, p ) “Without Adam-Ondi-Ahman, everything would be in confusion at the Second Coming of the Lord.” (Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, 18:344) “When this gathering is held, the world will not know of it; the members of the Church at large will not know of it.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, The Way to Perfection, 1943, pp ).

29 1st Woe – 1st Appearance – Adam Ondi Ahman
“The sons of Levi will offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness” (3 Nephi 24:2-3) “144,000 sealed priests will be at Adam Ondi Ahman” (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, 5:326). “Both men and women will be present.” (B.R.McConkie, Millennial Messiah) “The righteous shall receive all the blessings of the temple, the fullness of the priesthood, and the Second Comforter” (ETB, Ensign, August 1985, pp. 6-10)

33 “To feast means to savor
“To feast means to savor. We savor the scriptures by studying them in a spirit of delightful discovery and faithful obedience. The words of Christ become embedded ‘in fleshy tables of the heart’ and they become an integral part of our nature.” Russell Nelson, “Living by Scriptural Guidance,” October 2000 “To feast upon the words of Christ, we must study the scriptures and absorb His words through pondering them and making them a part of every thought and action.” Robert Hales, “Healing Soul and Body,” October 1998 1 Nephi 15:24

50 Abraham’s Covenant

51 “[It] puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come.”

52 “[In addition to Joseph Smith], the Lord provided for eleven others to see the gold plates for themselves and to be special witnesses of the truth and divinity of [the Book of Mormon].”

53 “We invite all men everywhere to read [the Book of Mormon], to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true…”

54 “The Book of Mormon is the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion” (Introduction to the Book of Mormon).  Ephesians 2:19-22 “Ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.”

55 “On the west side of this hill, not far from the top, under a stone of considerable size, lay [the plates], deposited in a stone box. This stone was thick and rounding in the middle on the upper side, and thinner towards the edges, so that the middle part of it was visible above the ground, but the edge all around was covered with earth…”

56 “I made an attempt to take them out, but was forbidden by the messenger and was again informed that the time for bringing them forth had not yet arrived…”

57 “No sooner was it known that I had them than the most strenuous exertions were used to get them from me. Every stratagem that could be invented was resorted to for that purpose. The persecution became more bitter and severe than before, and multitudes were on the alert continually…

58 “The ancient record brought forth from the earth as the voice of a people speaking from the dust, and translated into modern speech by the gift and power of God as attested by Divine affirmation, was first published to the world…”

59 “I told the brethren that [the Book of Mormon] was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other [book].”

63 After translating the bible into English and after facing fierce opposition from the king, William Tyndale was imprisoned for almost 2 years, given little eat or drink, had no blankets or pillow and was then strangled to death and then his body was burned and the ashes destroyed and cast off the continent because the king thought he was such a heretic. About 90% of our King James bible comes from his translation; he added a slough of phrases that have become part of English vernacular as well.

70 “There is no question – personal or social or political or occupational – that need go unanswered. 73 Elder Holland Second Coming

74 Sister Celia Cruz Ayala was attacked by a bandit who stole her purse and with it a wrapped copy of the Book of Mormon. A few days later she received this letter: Mrs. Cruz: Forgive me, forgive me. You will never know how sorry I am for attacking you. I want you to know that you seemed to have a radiance about you. That light seemed to stop me from harming you, so I ran away instead. But because of it, my life has changed and will continue to change. The Book of Mormon - the message you wrote in that book brought tears to my eyes. I have not been able to stop reading it. I have prayed and asked God to forgive me, and I ask you to forgive me. I want you to know that you will see me again, but when you do, you won’t recognize me, for I will be your brother Here, where I live, I now go to the church you belong to…  Sincerely, Your brother
