Hillside First Grade
For the Week of February 9th
What We are Learning:
Reading:
Students will be working on Readers Theater, Hickory Dickory Dock. We will use fix-up monitoring, summarize story elements, analyze characters, and work on fluent reading.
Math:
Students are working on addition and subtraction facts. They are being introduced how to use a facts tablet. They are making equivalent names.
Writing:
In Writer’s Workshop we are working on beginning, middle and end of stories. We are also checking for spelling and punctuation. Have your child tell you a story with a beginning, middle, and end. This is a great way to practice.
Science:
We finished our Culture Unit and invite you to view our living room during conferences. On Monday we will be learning about life in the desert.
Kids Bank
Dr. Davis would like everyone to start a Kids Bank Account. It is a wonderful way to teach your child about saving money. An account can be open every Wednesdays and during conferences.
Reminders:
Parent Teacher Conference sign up will be open on Monday.
Energy Game is on Tuesday.
Book Fair Will Be February 16, 17, and 18th in the Media Center.
Friday, February 13th is the Valentine Party. Please make sure your child brings and signs a valentine for each student in their classroom. Your child does not need to put students names on cards. You do not need to bring a box, we will be decorating our own Valentine Sack. All classes have 26 students.
